     Jerome "Jack" Van Hercke, 88, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Monday, May 16, 2022.  Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 AM followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM Saturday, May 21, at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11300 W. 103rd, Overland Park.  Burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa,  KS.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Great Plains SPCA or any animal rescue organization of your choice.

     Jack was born June 2, 1933, in Kansas City, KS to Dewey B. and Mary (DeWendt) Van Hercke, who preceded him in death.  He was an insurance agent and founded Van Hercke Insurance Agency in 1959 for 62 years retiring in 2021.  He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and the Independent Insurance Agents Association.  Jack was a past City Councilman in Overland Park, KS.  Jack is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joanne F. (Lauer) Van Hercke, four children;  Laurie (Marty) McWilliams, Linda (Joe) Alt, Lisa (Jim) Lane, Ronald (Jami) Van Hercke, eight grandchildren Bob Harris, Tony McWilliams, Jason Harris, Callie Lane, Katie McWilliams, Blake Van Hercke, Abby Van Hercke, Maggie Van Hercke, two sisters Ginny Griffith, Dottye Ashner, two great grandchildren Lily Harris and Ava Harris and extended family and friends.

Laurie called my daughter Kathie yesterday and informed her of Jack's passing, She told me and I was so sorry to get this news. My oldest daughter Kathie and Laurie were friends from school age and I was a client for years. Jack and Larie were extremely helpful whenever I had a question or needed to make changes in our service. Jack was always more than my agent, He was a friend. I shall miss him. Jackie was in my Boy Scout patrol for several years (Troop 94, OP Presbyterian) and he was always a pleasure to be with at meetings or on camping trips. At one meeting he came to me to ask how he could get one of our important patrol jobs. I jokingly told him that I didn't have any pictures of his pretty sisters. The next meeting he presented me with a nice grad picture if Dottie. I still have it and smile when I find it. Jackie was great.
