Oct 06, 1930---May 06, 2022

Pundit Satya Deva Sharma, 91, passed away on May 6th, 2022 in Leawood, Kansas. He was born on October 6, 1930 in Aligarh, India, to Ganga Prasad and Gayatri Devi Sharma. He started his career as income tax officer for the government of India in the 1950s and retired as Financial Advisor at Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited in the 1990s. In addition to his extensive travels throughout India, Pt. Sharma was an ardent yogi and enjoyed spending quality time with his family. After retirement, Pt. Sharma devoted himself to the study of the Hindu Vedas and eventually authored a book based on many decades of study of the Vedic literature.

He will be missed dearly by his wife of 75 years, Shanti Devi; his admiring children, Akanksha, Trapti, Ravi, Vijaya, Lakshmi, and Rakesh; his children’s families, including twelve grandchildren; and friends and community both in India and the US.

Prayer and cremation will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 from 2:00-4:30 pm CST at Porter Funeral Home.

I pay my condolences to the family and to Rishabh who exemplifies his grandfather’s kindness and gentleness. Every time I was over at the Gaur residence, Rishabh’s grandfather greeted me with a smile and a nod. He treated us as his own; he never let anything come between us and his love. He made the house feel warm and homely. To Rishabh, he was a source of constant support and attention. I know he would be smiling to see how many people he has touched and the legacy he has built through his children and grandchildren. He is an amazing man who I respect and honor. I know this family is strong during this time because of the love he has shown to his family all his life.
