Aug 13, 1950---May 06, 2022

William Scott Rothgeb, 71, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Friday, May 6, 2022.  Visitation will be 10-11:00 AM with a Memorial Service following at 11:00 AM Friday, May 13, at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS.  Burial at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions in Bill's name to the donor's choice.

Bill was born August 13, 1950, in Ft. Wayne, IN to Richard Franklin and Bonnie Mae (Adams) Rothgeb, (who preceded him in death).  He grew up in Logansport, IN where he met his wife. Bill was a Civil Structural Engineer for Black and Veatch retiring in 2016. Bill is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cheryl Jayne (Ross) Rothgeb, two sons Greg (Trilby) Rothgeb, Brad Rothgeb, brother Robert (Susan) Rothgeb, sister Carol (Todd) Burklow, nephew Mackey Oldham, nieces Kate Antonik, Lindsey Green and extended family and friends.  Bill graduated from Logansport High School in 1968 and went on to get his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Purdue University.  Upon graduation and marriage, he moved to the Kansas City area.  His career took him to many states and other countries, working on the design and construction of power plants and hydro-electric facilities.  He was a devoted father and a great supporter of his sons' school, scout, and sport activities - establishing lifelong friendships along the way.  Family trips back to Indiana, to the oceans, the mountains, and historical places made lasting memories that he treasured.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Bill! I had the great opportunity to work with Bill on many of our various hydro projects in Michigan and Wisconsin while I was with Wisconsin Electric. In particular he was invaluable as a team member with Rich Gorny and members of the FERC (in particular Olaf Weeks) as we not only completed the FERC Part 12 inspections, but later the required PFMA and comprehensive dam safety STID documents. I considered him a good friend, and although too far apart to further enjoy that friendship, I have many memories of good times during our inspections or at conferences we both attended! Although I don’t miss the work, I do miss the many friends I developed over the course of my career, and Bill was certainly one of the best that I will continue to miss! May god bless you and keep you Bill!

Bill, Cheryl, Carol, and I were good friends for 35+ years and neighbors for almost that long. Our boys grew up together, through grade school and high school, scouts, marching band, and sports. Bill and I even played some basketball together when we were much younger. I have many great memories of my time with Bill and will miss him greatly.

My sincere condolences to the family. I had the pleasure of getting to work for Bill as part of Black & Veatch's hydropower team. He was a mentor to me and provided me with great opportunities including the design of the Twin Falls Hydropower project and later helping me to make a smooth transition into the Project Management role by introducing me to his clients at We Energies. I enjoyed working with Bill and always appreciate his passion for engineering and for doing the right thing by his clients.

Dear dear Cheryl, Please accept our deepest condolences for the loss of your husband. We are deeply sorry. I remember when you were Josh’s Preschool Teacher how you & I would look sideways at each other when we talked of where our husbands were. It hasn’t always been easy! We send our love and care. May your many wonderful and great memories help sustain you at this difficult time. With love, Lana Petersen and Family
