     James J. Gampper, 88, of Lenexa, KS, passed away Friday, May 6, 2022.  Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 AM followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM Wednesday, May 11, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 13615  W. 92nd Lenexa, KS.  Burial in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Overland Park,  KS.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

     James was born April 22, 1934, in Hiawatha, KS.  He served his country in the United States Marine Corps.  He was a talented artist and loved his faith and family.  James is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley A. Gampper, 4 children;  Leslie (Shawn) Chalmers, Jim (Kim) Gampper, Michelle (Jim) Maxwell, John (Suzan) Gampper, brother Charles (Susan) Gampper, 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and extended family and friends.

We are so sad to hear of Jim’s passing. Chester and I have great memories of our faith group gatherings and talking in church when we should have been quiet. What a wonderful artist and such a kind hearted man. Jim had a great sense of humor and a kind word for all. He will truly be missed. Sincere condolences to the Gampper family. I did not know Jim well, but our interactions were always enjoyable. He was a gracious host for several fun golf outings for his brother Chuck's neighborhood golf group. Good times with Jim and Chuck and the golf gang! Condolences from the Sherards. What wonderful memories we have of Jim. He was quite a character (to include drawing Daffy Duck on my cast for a broken leg, with a cartoon balloon saying a dirty word), that was 50+ years ago and I still laugh about it. One of many "Jim" stories.

My condolences to the Gampper family. My father, Duane Nigus, was a life-long friend of Jim, and I heard many stories about them when they were growing up in Hiawatha. Duane died exactly one week after Jim, and I can't help but think the two of them are back together - reunited and up to some sort of mischief!
