Barbara Jean Gallagher Scott, age 90, went to her eternal rest on May 4, 2022 surrounded by loved ones. Visitation, 9:30 AM, May 9 with funeral services at 11:00 AM, both at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 1701 NE 96th St., KCMO 64155. Burial at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 701 N. 94th St., KCK, at 2:30 PM.
Barbara was born on the family farm in Bonner Springs, KS to Patrick and Louise Porth Gallagher. They later moved to KCK where she resided for 62 years.
In 1953 she married Donald Scott. Their union was blessed with Steven, Donna, and Nancy (Mike). Barbara was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church for 55 years where she was in the choir, LWML, and PTL. After moving to Gladstone, MO she joined Holy Cross Lutheran where she was active on the Board of Social Ministries and Lutherans for Life in the Northland. She was currently a member of King of Kings.
Barbara was active in the lives of her children as a Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Committee, and Girl Scout Cookie Chairman for many years. She also coached grade school girls in volleyball, basketball, and softball at Kensington Recreation Center, as well as at Grace Lutheran School.
Later in life Barbara was employed outside of the home at Sears. She worked in the accounting department as a senior accountant and then as a systems coordinator.
After turning 50, she and Don bought a BMW Touring motorcycle and covered the U.S., including Alaska, and all of Canada for 15 years. In 1992 they were named Ambassadors of the International BMW Motorcycle Club, of which she was still a member. She also participated in Senior Mermaids and water aerobics. She often worked on the “Class of ’49” Wyandotte High School reunions. The last 3 years she spent at Shawnee Hills Senior Living where she participated in activities too numerous to mention and made many close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, brother Bob and niece, Jane Gallagher. She is survived by her children, Steven, Donna, and Nancy (Mike), 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Dorothy and brother-in-law Maurice, 9 nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, and friends she dearly loved.
