Hey brother going to miss you hitting those 300 yard bombs and 4-putting from 30 ft for double bogey. Loved our Sunday talks about sports, the world and Hudson and Landon. Amber and Lindsay are very appreciative of your guidance to help them become the successful business partners that they are today in managing The Golden Scoop. You will be missed by those who loved you most. Say hi to Dad, Mom, and Mark. Love you brother Tom

Dave was a friend of mine for over 30 years. We worked together at Payless Cashways. I exchanged texts with Dave just a few weeks ago. He was a super guy. I'll never forget his great smile and work ethic. Condolences to the family. And to you Dave--thanks for the friendship and for a life well lived.

I keep thinking of Hudson and Landon and knowing how much they are missing their PaPa right now. Being a grandma now I know how much he loved those boys and always talking to your dad he always had so much love and excitement in his voice everytime he talked about them. I apologize in advance if this is too long, but so many memories are flooding forth. I'll miss my Rockhurst U golf partner (you laughing at me since my hands were black from my golf grips falling apart and telling me not to touch your ball LOL), I'll miss my fellow sports watcher, I'll miss the Krumrunner speedboat captain and fist bump deliverer, but most importantly, I'll miss my friend. Our last memory of watching Kansas win the National Semi-final with Burt, Amber and Hudson and you ordering us Waldo Pizza was a memorable last memory, but one cut drastically too short. You loved Jay Wright's program at Villanova because he did things the right way, and is Catholic. You respected those that did things the right way and doing them with integrity and honor. You got me into watching the Navy Seals series. Treehouse games and meetups at Tanner's. Flying back for Amber's basketball games and beaming with excitement from months-old video recordings of Bruno Mars and most anything Mo-town or from The Weeknd that seemed like the first time you'd watched them, when it was probably the 150th. I'll treasure decades of memories and you'll live on through Amber, Lindsay, Burt, Hudson and Landon and all the lives you've touched. Until our next fist-bump my friend....

Dave was such a great guy, and always had a smile for everyone! I really enjoyed our talks at the hospital when Janet and Dale were not doing well. He was so proud of his family, and loved to talk about the grandkids!! I always remember coming to DSM at Easter time to visit our cousins when we were growing up. My deepest condolences to the family!!

So sorry to hear about this. We grew up together and went to St Anthony's together and high school. He lived a block from us and we had great fun in our neighborhood...playing basketball, yard baseball, etc. My Mother adored his parents and family. Sorry for your loss.

The memories that have come to mind over the past few days are too many to count! So many times hanging out at Grandma Joyce's and the laughs that were numerous. A couple of forbidden parties when our parents were out of town! The bantering of who was a better band..The Doobie Bros or Peter Frampton!! Never an argument about the best song "Come on down to my boat , baby! Time passed between visits, but it never felt that way. You will be missed more than you know, but I will treasure our times. You left the world a better place with your strong convictions as well as 2 beautiful daughters. Love you!

Sad to hear of this news. Dave was a mentor and had significant influence in my development in leadership and management through my training at Payless Cashways. Although it has been many years since I've seen or visited with Dave, my memories of his advice and instruction are very clear in my mind. I can still see him greeting me one sunny afternoon in front of my new store opening in Springfield, MO, complementing me on past accomplishments at both this new location and the previous one in Independence, MO. He was a light in the darkness that could characterize some of the retail challenges we faced as a company, and individually. His positive attitude and can-do confidence was contagious. I am sure those closest to him will miss him very much. My condolences to the family and friends. Thank you Dave for making a difference!

In my formative years of trying to be a leader, THIS was whom everyone wanted to be. Smart. Kind. Passionate. Driven. He changed the perception of what a leader was. Condolences to his family. You are certainly blessed to have had an incredible man to guide and support you.

Words will never express how much Dave will be missed. I will forever be thankful that 2 broken fingers in one basketball season would lead me to one of the best families and friendships a person could ask for. Maybe it was the roadtrip over spring break with Lindsay to ATL where Dave took us to see Tim McGraw, I learned about Dave's "famous" Ketel One, and what Lindsay and I would call the "near drowning" in the hot tub when we questioned whether Dave was gonna come back up for air. Or maybe it was how after 20 years, without fail, he would remind me that I had yet to buy him a new leather coat to replace the one we ruined when he was there to catch all our tears after basketball games. Your dad was always there to make us laugh. Lindsay and Amber, there are no words to express how sorry I am for your loss. But if it's any consolation, I am positive your dad, Reggie and Father Luke are already upstairs having drinks and playing a round of golf. Sending love and prayers, your dad was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed by all.

I worked for and with Dave over my years with Payless! He appreciated dedicated, hardworking employees, and was supportive and appreciative! Favorite moment YEARS ago ... we had ridden together to a store, and on the way home a Billy Ocean song came on ... we HAD to open the windows, crank it up, and sing! Recently, Dave sent his condolences to me for my Randy's passing ... same young age ... and I want to return that concern and prayers for the family! God's Peace!

Our family met Dave and his family thru our daughter, Kelly and Rockhurst basketball. From the first time you met him till the end he made you feel like you was his best friend. He always had time to visit with you and made you feel accepted. He helped our family in ways we could never repay or Thank him enough for. May he Rest In Peace and his family celebrate and remember all the great times with him.

Friend & Payless co-worker ,Kansas City ,Missouri

A lasting friendship began in the late ‘70s when Dave was the Asst. Mgr. and I was the Yard Foreman at the North Kansas City, MO Payless. Dave started as a “Yard Dog” in the company and he built his credibility, along with his intelligence, good sense, and personality from there. A photo of him wearing his hard hat from those early days always hung on his office walls. As time went on, our paths crossed many times. My eventual advancement into the corporate office ranks, called for me to occasionally make board room presentations. How sweet it was to walk into that room, stand in front of that big oval table with all the suits around it, just waiting for me. And there he was, every time. MY FRIEND VICE PRESIDENT DAVE KRUMBHOLZ. with his smile, welcoming me by his personal nickname for me; “Hey Spirit, how’s it going?” Of course, I could mention other experiences with Dave that I cherish. I wanted to mention this one to make a specific point about one of Dave’s character qualities. DAVE always demonstrated positivity and confidence in people. And that is contagious. I am so fortunate to have this man to remember. To all of Dave’s family; God bless.

So sad to hear about Dave. As the youngest cousin on my mother’s side, I remember and always loved the visits to see my boy cousins, the Krumbholz’ boys in Des Moines. Years later visits at Lake of the Ozarks, weddings, and other events, Dave always had a smile and fun times were always around. He always spoke of his kids and grandkids and how proud he was of them. He will be greatly missed. Much love to all your family.

The world lost a wonderful man with Dave's passing. And I lost a great friend, mentor and inspiration. Dave and I have shared so many great times together over the years. I do not have words to adequately express both my condolences for his family and the sense of personal loss that I feel... Heaven is a better place today with him there.

Dave was an amazing guy for sure and made a difference in the lives of many; including me. Dave was my Regional VP at Payless Cashways from ‘90 to ‘99 when I worked multiple roles in the Midwest Region. Many, many stories and fond memories to share. So sad that I didn’t have that one last moment with him. Gone way too soon! One of Dave’s favorite sayings, which I have shared with countless many over the years, was “There’s nothing more devastating to an opinion than a fact”. To my Manager, my mentor, and my friend, rest easy, play hard, and I WILL see you again one day!
