May 01, 1963---Jan 18, 2022

Joan Mary Owsley, 58, of Prairie Village, KS, passed away on January 18, 2022. A celebration of Joan’s life will be held on what would have been her 59th birthday, May 1, 2022. Details will be sent out closer to that date, but if you would like to attend, please save the date.

Joan was born on May 1, 1963, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Donald and Betty Owsley. She was one of nine children. She lived in Prairie Village, KS her entire life. Joan attended Bishop Miege High School, graduating in 1981. Joan’s first job was at Waid’s restaurant in the Prairie Village Shopping Center. Joan also worked at the Tippin’s restaurant located in Corinth Square, where she met and made many lifelong friends. While working at Applebee’s, Joan wrote an orientation manual to help new employees. She continued to work in the service industry, until she had to retire due to health reasons. She was known for her excellent service, her humor, and her sarcastic wit.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Betty Owsley, and her sisters, Nancy (Owsley) Reilly, and Judy (Owsley) Holtkamp. She is survived by her best friend and love of her life, Robert “Bob” Cosgrove, Sr. of the home and the light of her life, their son, Walker T. Cosgrove of Overland Park, KS. Her greatest regret was leaving the two of them so soon. Joan had been ill for several years and expressed to others her appreciation for the love and care both Robert and Walker provided her during those challenging times.

Joan loved to go with Robert and try new places to eat, go on mini vacations, and visit zoos whenever possible. Joan was very family oriented and loved spending time with family. With such a big family there were always events and parties. Another of Joan’s loves was for all animals, especially her two cats, Sammy and Dean.

Joan is also survived by her brother David Owsley (Mary) of Overland Park, KS; sister Linda Nichols (Stephen) of Kansas City, MO; brother Martin Owsley (Laura) of Mission, KS; brother Dan Owsley (Valerie) of Shawnee, KS; sister Mary Beth Larson (Mike) of Reno, Nevada; brother Vincent Owsley of Meriden, KS; brother-in-law Patrick Reilly of Roeland Park, KS; 32 nieces and nephews; and 23 great nieces and nephews.

Bob, Walker and family, We are so sorry of Joan’s passing. Joan was a sweet person. We remember fondly when Bob and Joan came by to visit us in Austin in 2017. We all had a great lunch eating Mexican food on the patio of a small Mexican restaurant. Love, Joe, Dixie and family

I am so sorry to hear the news of Joan’s passing. Although I have not seen her in many many years I have followed her on Facebook and saw her personality through her humor and knew of her heath issues. Praying that Joan is at peace and for her family.

To all of Joan's huge family circle, may God give you all the grace and strength to get through this hard time with peace. I've only ever had a few friends in my life with whom I've shared the kind of bonds Joan had a way of making. She really made her mark and the world will be dimmer and duller without her light and laughter.
