Eugene R. Orth, 95, passed away Saturday, January 8th at Santa Marta in Olathe, KS. Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. with the rosary prayed at 9:45 a.m. The Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 17th, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2203 Parallel Ave., Kansas City, KS. Entombment will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, KS.
Gene was born November 25, 1926 to Frederick and Antoinette (Bauer) Orth in Kansas City, Kansas where he remained a lifelong resident.
He was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Gene served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a draftsman by trade and worked at Labcon until he retired at the age of 75.
After retiring, he would serve at Mass and helped with maintenance and other things around the church. Gene was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. One of his other interests was sports. He especially loved Notre Dame football.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, brother Joseph Orth, sisters Mary Jancich and Therese Sims. He is survived by 11 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews, who will miss his sense of humor and his quiet, humble personality.
