Delmar Lee Burton 91, Lenexa, KS, died on November 20, 2021 in Overland Park, Kansas. The son of Helen Wood Burton and Delmar Leroy Burton. Delmar was a 1946 graduate of Westport High School. He graduated from the University of Missouri Business School in 1951. While at Missouri he was a member of Phi Delta Theta and a member of the football squad in 1947 & 1948. He was a member of the Davenport Society, Column Club, Jefferson Club & Legacy Society at the University. He married Glenna Lou Branstetter in 1951. Glenna died in 2006, shortly before their 55th anniversary. Daughter Deborah Lee Burton, born in 1952 and passed away in 2018 and his brother Daniel T. Burton who preceded him in death earlier this year. He is survived by his son, Dan Wood Burton and wife Katy, grandsons Spencer Wood Burton, Kendall Brock Carew and wife Mallory and great-granddaughter Carolyn Edwards Carew. Also surviving are his sister, Judee Borden of Glendale, AZ, sisters in law, Liz Thomas of Clinton, MO and Michele Burton of Las Vegas, NV. and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his loving companion of the past 11 years, Susan Frost of La Quinta, CA and her daughter Cindy Q. Frost and son Mattia, son Nick Frost and wife Diane, their children Alex, Casey, Sydney and Bailey, daughter Kristi Buckley and her sons Carter and Owen.
Delmar was a combat veteran of the Korean War where he served as an officer with the 780th Field Artillery Battalion. He was awarded the Bronze Star.
He worked in the insurance and reinsurance industry for 40 years, retiring as Executive Vice President & Director of Employers Reinsurance in 1991. He was a member of Indian Hills Country Club in Mission Hills, PGA West and The Citrus Club in La Quinta, CA. He was a former member of the Kansas City Club and the 822 Club at K.C. Club.
A visitation for family and friends will be from 4:00-6:00 pm, Friday, December 3, 2021 at the Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia Street, Lenexa, KS 66215. Private family Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Floral Hills Cemetery, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64133. Following the graveside services a Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 4-6 p.m. Saturday at Milburn Country Club, 7501 W. 69th St., Overland Park, KS 66204
