Gerard W. Huerter, 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday November 14, 2021 at his home surrounded by family.
Jerry was born November 18, 1934, in Seneca, KS to Victor and Mary Huerter. He was a 1952 graduate of St. Peter and Paul High School in Seneca. He attended Benedictine College, and graduated from Creighton University Dental School in 1958. Following graduation he served with the 1st Calvary Division U.S. Army as Captain and Dentist from 1958-1962. Jerry continued his education at Saint Louis University Department of Orthodontics where he received his Master of Science in Orthodontics in 1964. Upon graduating, Jerry opened his orthodontic practice in Kansas City, KS and served his community until his retirement in 2001. Jerry was thrilled to receive an Honorary Bachelor of Sciences Diploma from Benedictine College in 2021. He was President of the Orthodontic Education and Research Foundation, a founding member of the KAW Valley Dental Study Club, long time member of the Tweed Orthodontic Foundation and the Tweed Orthodontic Study Club of the Midwest, UMKC Dental School Department of Orthodontics Instructor, where he initiated starting its Edgewise Orthodontic program, member of the International College of Dentist, Sierra Club Member, and member of the Knights of Columbus.
Jerry was a faithful catholic and parishioner of St. Patrick and St. Michael the Archangel parishes.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 62 years Jo Ann (Ryan) Huerter, 5 children and 10 grandchildren: Susan Reinhardt (Joe),Tricia, Joe and Katie; Victoria Driscoll, Colin; Gerard Huerter Jr. (Paula), Garrett, Courtney, Grant and Carson; Thomas Huerter (Wendy), Mary Ryan and Robert; and Sarah Rowan (Paul). Jerry is also survived by his brothers, Dr. James Huerter Sr., Dr. Quentin Huerter (Barbara), Dr. Ron Huerter (Connie) and sister Mary Catherine Brummel.
Jerry was proceeded in death by his parents and grandson Michael Gerard Huerter.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am Saturday, November 20 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish, 14251 Nall Ave, Leawood, KS 66223. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am. prior to the Mass. Burial will follow the luncheon at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Kansas City, Kansas.
