Dec 10, 1943---Sep 27, 2021

Kathleen Joy (Rickard) Wolters, 77, passed away on Monday, Sept. 27, 2021.

Kathleen was born December 10, 1943 in St. Paul, MN to Homer and Anita (Hunt) Rickard.  She married Ronald Wolters on October 12th, 1968 in Chicago, IL.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ronald, her only child Paul (Kathy) Wolters, grand-daughters Matea and Hope,  sister Sharon (Rickard) Witter,  sister-in-law Bette Rickard, sister-in-law Judy Rickard, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Gerald and Roger Rickard.

Kathleen was a fun-loving person and always had a smile on her face.  Even though her granddaughters lived in Austin, Texas, Kathleen would FaceTime with them regularly.  When she could travel to Austin to visit, she would spend her days showering her family with love, affection, and silliness.

Kathleen was so very personable and made friends wherever she went.  She was always chatting up strangers, new neighbors, and bridge club partners.

Kathleen was very creative, with a passion for ceramics, sewing, and woodworking.  She was always interested in the uncommon things in life, and expressed herself with her unique taste in fashion and decorating.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to the Sister Servants of Mary at 800 North 18th Street in Kansas City, KS.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with a visitation following until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 2nd at the Porter Funeral Home in Lenexa, KS.

Aunt Kathy will be missed. I always enjoyed having her visit. So fun to be around and a smile so big that you couldn’t help but smile back! She always tried to make the atmosphere fun for everyone in her presence. She’s prepared a smorgasbord of stellar tacos on numerous occasions that always received rave reviews! She was always very caring and thoughtful and we all enjoyed her company so much. My thoughts and prayers are with all of the family. Love you guys

Aunt Kathy will be missed. Although miles apart we had recently picked up reconnecting. We discussed our families past and present. I will so miss those talks with her. Heaven has truly gained an angel. Until we can meet again please rest peacefully and give Dad a hug for me.

Ron, the four of us had so many good times and laughs at our kitchen table when you and Kathy would come to visit & we played 500. I am going to miss her upbeat, positive attitude about life, all the talks on the telephone and the "girl laughs" she & I had when we talked about everything. You were both always kind and loving to Nicky. Kathy would jump right in and help when needed for anything. I miss her so much already. You and Kathy will always be in our hearts & in my prayers, Ron. Remember, we are always here for you, just a phone call away. Love, Dwight, Terry and Nicky

I am so sorry for your loss. Cathy was a special woman, a true force of nature with an unrelenting, unapologetic zest for life. I'm so glad that I was able to share a lovely dinner and fun girls night out with her and Pam this summer. It was a special time that I will cherish. Peace to you and Blessings to Cathy on her journey.

Paul, the first time I met your mom, we went for milkshakes & your impersonation of Mr. Meditz had us laughing so hard, milkshake came out of Kathy's nose -- she made quite a first impression - ha! In more recent years, when I would deliver Girl Scout cookies to her, she was always welcoming for a visit, wanted a full update on our family & had to show me her latest projects around the house. Our family sends your family much love & I hope you find comfort in happy memories.

Expressing my deepest condolences in Kathy’s passing. I know she is asking Jesus a lot of questions. She was great at asking hard questions and getting to bottom of things. One of her best qualities was the joy she took in her family though. She loved all of you so deeply and smiled so beautifully when she shared stories and pictures of you. She made the world a better place for all she met.
