Jan 04, 1935---Sep 01, 2021

Mary Jayne Engendorff, 86, of Lenexa, Kansas, lost her battle with cancer on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.

Mary Jayne was born January 4, 1935, in Mexico, Missouri the daughter of Nick Thurman and Nora Hendrix Plybon.

She is survived by her daughter, Lynora (Lyn) Anne Campbell of Lenexa; former son-in-law, John F. Campbell, Lenexa; and grandson, John Christopher Campbell, Lenexa; nephew, Ronnie McGinnis, Boerne, TX ; and great niece Amy (Greyson) Thomas, San Antonio, TX.  She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Nick Thurman Plybon, Jr.; John William Plybon; and two nieces Lynnette Robinson and Donna Beth Greyson.  When her two nieces and nephew were young, she enjoyed spoiling them and they loved spending time with their, “Aunt Jaynie.”

Mary Jayne grew up in Auxvasse, MO.  As a young girl she helped care for her grandparents as they aged.  She graduated from Auxvasse High School and attended Central Methodist University where she studied voice performance. After her college years she spent her life working as an executive secretary in various positions in the insurance and pharmaceutical industries. She retired in 1995 and enjoyed working as a paraprofessional and a substitute teacher.

As a young woman Mary Jayne was a part of the Civil Air Patrol.  Once in the working world she was a member of the American Business Women’s Association.

The center of her world was her daughter Lyn.  She would share how proud she was of her daughter with anyone that would listen.  Mary Jayne loved her son-in-law John as if he was her own son.  They remained close until the end of her life. Most especially, she loved being a grandma to her only grandchild, John Christopher.  They would spend hours together when he visited, “Grandma’s House,” on the second floor of the Care Center at Lakeview Village where she lived, was loved and well taken care of by the amazing staff.  She even learned how to visit with Lyn and John Christopher via Skype, Facetime and Zoom.

In 2012, she was blessed to be able to move to the Care Center at Lakeview Village in Lenexa, KS thanks to her visit with Vicki Campbell from admissions.  Lyn would like to mention as many of the staff as possible, knowing she will leave someone out, but wanting to specifically acknowledge all that loved and cared for her mother.  CNAs: Benson, Alexis, Jennifer, Edith, Michael, Kim, Greg, Wanda, April, Tottie, Ruth, Shim everyone.  Activities: Lisa, Tammy, Corine, Jeannie,Tersea everyone.
