Dec 15, 1920---Jun 09, 2021

John Heiling, Sr., 100, passed away June 9, 2021, in Lenexa, Kansas.  He was born December 15, 1920, the son of John and Mary Gertrude Heiling, of Kansas City, Missouri.  Orphaned by age four, John was raised by families of his mother’s sisters, the Becks and Groffs.  All of the many children in these two families viewed John as their brother, and to him, they were all his siblings.

John was a graduate of De La Salle High School and later enlisted in the U. S. Army, serving in England as a munitions specialist.  He was employed by Kansas City Power & Light Co. for 35 years, retiring as a systems operation manager, in 1982.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lillian Heiling, and infant daughter, Barbara Ellen Heiling.  He is survived by his sons, John Heiling (Kathleen), of Overland Park, KS; James Heiling (Teresa) of Sioux City, IA; Thomas Heiling (Laura), of Olathe, KS; and Daniel Heiling (Gay Lynne) of Owasso, OK; twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.  A role model of integrity, love and faith, John was cherished by his family and those who had the privilege of knowing him.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 14, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11311 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS, where friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Catholic Community Hospice, 9740 W. 87th Street, Overland Park, KS 66212, or St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11311 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203.

Dear cousins, Reaching out with my sympathy and lots of hugs to you all! Your dad was a great uncle, I always felt loved by him when I was around him. So glad he lived a long and fruitful life with a great family like you to enjoy! I regret that I cannot attend services as I have to work and cannot get out of it. When I work I have to have someone take my place and there is no one right now as we already have one person out in our department with a broken foot. God bless you all, Love, Mary and family My mother sends her condolences as well and would like to send a card. What address can she use? You can email me at Marycjanke@gmail.com
