John Heiling, Sr., 100, passed away June 9, 2021, in Lenexa, Kansas. He was born December 15, 1920, the son of John and Mary Gertrude Heiling, of Kansas City, Missouri. Orphaned by age four, John was raised by families of his mother’s sisters, the Becks and Groffs. All of the many children in these two families viewed John as their brother, and to him, they were all his siblings.
John was a graduate of De La Salle High School and later enlisted in the U. S. Army, serving in England as a munitions specialist. He was employed by Kansas City Power & Light Co. for 35 years, retiring as a systems operation manager, in 1982.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lillian Heiling, and infant daughter, Barbara Ellen Heiling. He is survived by his sons, John Heiling (Kathleen), of Overland Park, KS; James Heiling (Teresa) of Sioux City, IA; Thomas Heiling (Laura), of Olathe, KS; and Daniel Heiling (Gay Lynne) of Owasso, OK; twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. A role model of integrity, love and faith, John was cherished by his family and those who had the privilege of knowing him.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 14, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11311 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS, where friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
