Janet E. Filip (Stratton) passed away peacefully at her home in Lenexa, Kan. on March 20, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Alan. Janet was born in Chicago, Ill. to William and Dorothy Stratton. Janet is survived by her daughters Sharon, Jennifer (Rick), Becky (Damon) and Mary (Harley) as well as her grandchildren Hannah, Jacob, Molly, and Emily. Janet was preceded in death by her brothers Robert (Patti) and Terry (Don). She is survived by her brothers Kenneth and Tim (Helen), and sisters Joan (Ron) and Cathy (Jim). Janet is survived by her large family of loving nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces as well as an extended family of friends.

Capturing the magnitude of a spirit like Janet’s with words is difficult. No matter how brief the encounter, her unmistakable laugh, warm smile, and loving presence made a lasting impact on everyone she met. A generous soul that welcomed all to her table, Janet was a friend, mother, grandmother to all. Janet loved all things family and created many traditions for her girls and grandchildren. The Christmas tradition of Bake Day is likely the most well-known and will be the most missed by her family and all that enjoyed the product of this day filled with cookies, friends, and family. Janet enjoyed spending time with her extended family, friends, church groups, and volunteered at Mill Creek Elementary School as “Ms. B”.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 18 at the Grand Pavilion at Sar-Ko-Park Park in Lenexa, Kan. Sar-Ko-Par Park is located at 87th Street and Lackman. The Grand Pavilion can be accessed using the stoplight at 87th and Greenway Lane. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to The Micah Ministry at Independence Boulevard Christian Church or Care Beyond the Boulevard. Another celebration of life will be held in Elmhurst Il on April 24th at 10:30 am at the First Congregational of Elmhurst, 235 S Kenilworth Ave, Elmhurst, IL 60126 with a luncheon to follow.

Friend in our church ,Shawnee ,Kansas

I shared this prayer with a special group at Shawnee Community Christian Church where Janet (and Alan) and was a member. Dear God, Thank you for all the caring support of Janet to us in her church family, including this Big Biscuit Group. Thank You for her example of perseverance and encouragement with us in our church family. Thank You for strength that You have blessed her with to keep active within different ways in our church family. God, thank You for the creativity of Alan and Janet in designing the stain-glass Cross in the center front of our worship area. And thank you God for all their leadership and involving others in this beautiful, inspiring, and intricate assembling and permanent creation. And God thank You for all the support, encouragement and example that she has shared with her children and grandchildren and their partners. Thank You God for all the tough circumstances that she has faced and helped to lead her family through and empathy that she has shared with each family member. Bless her now with the celebration of her entry into Your Eternal Kingdom. Comfort us as we celebration her life among us. Amen
