Jul 24, 1933---Jul 02, 2020

Shirley Ann Steppe of Overland Park, KS died Thursday July, 2, 2020 at Menorah Medical Center. Visitation will be from 4-5pm on Monday July, 6th at the Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia Lenexa, KS. Graveside Service will be at 11am Tuesday July 7th, at the Ashland Cemetery in Manhattan, KS.
Shirley was born July 24, 1933 in Wichita KS, the daughter of Clinton and Marguerite Swan. She grew up with her sister, Kay and brother, Paul in Wichita and Junction City, KS. Shirley married Donald Steppe on January 8, 1956 in Junction City, KS and they celebrated 64 years of marriage this year. Shirley finished her working career in the Admissions department at Johnson County Community College.
Shirley and Don took many trips all over the world over the years, but her favorite place was enjoying the flowers, birds, and maybe a martini if it was Friday night on the back patio with her husband and best friend, Don.
She was a diehard KU and Chiefs fan and was thrilled when the Chiefs won the Superbowl this year. Her dogs, Buster, who passed in 2018, and Danny Boy were her babies, and she also really enjoyed Elvis and Thomas Kinkade paintings.
Shirley loved to cook and entertain, holidays and birthdays were a big deal, she loved getting the whole family together any chance she could get. Her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids meant the world to her and she would have done anything for any of them.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Donald Steppe; her 2 children, Mike Steppe, and Ron (Kathleen) Steppe; 5 grandchildren, Dustin (Jessica) Steppe, Kyle (Heather) Steppe, Kristen (Derrick) Ewing, Sean (Madi) Steppe, Erin (Josh) Steppe-Knight; 9 great-grandchildren and another one on the way; and her brother, Paul (Kathy) Swan and family.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Clinton and Marguerite Swan; her sister, Kay Heidebrecht; and her grandsons, Henry and Hudson Ewing.

Shirley was a wonderful lady and I always remember her warm smile and her acceptance of all of us "kids". I always felt welcomed in her home. Sending hugs and prayers to the entire Steppe family.

Oh my. How Shirley is going to be missed. She taught me as best she could about cooking. I’m afraid I wasn’t a good student! Her cooking was amazing. She loved canning the garden vegetables that Don grew. When we moved into our home in May of 1976 they were the first people we met. We became really good friends. We got together and played games and went to their lake house. Shirley loved her family. They were everything to her. She loved her flowers in their backyard. Christmas was so special and she loved decorating the tree. My son said he loved her laugh She was always smiling. We all adored you. I hope you knew that. Hugs
