John J. O’Donnell Jr, 69, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away April 3, 2020 peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. I have many good memories of going to Uncle John's house, both the old house and the new house . . . had a blast playing with all the cousins, amazing Christmas celebrations with Santa, and many amazing company dinners. I'll never forget Derrick eating two steaks at the Plaza 3, or enjoying a "chairman of the board" steak with Johnny. Thank you to the Commander for his legacy of leadership and generosity.

Barb and family, I have so many memories spending time with John. Having get together after work, hanging out at the farm riding ponies. I could go on but I think the best memory was playing Augusta Golf Club. We talked about it allot. The Commander was a great friend and man. May he Rest In Peace!

Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die. - Mary Elizabeth Frye Love you all so very much. I have so many wonderful memories and for that I am thankful. Mom always said "We don't cry because they are gone, we cry because we were left behind".

What a great man! Mr O’Donnell was a part of my life for over 25 years. He and his wife Barb were always so welcoming to me when I visited their son John at their home in Overland Park. So many great memories watching the KC chiefs together. Mr. O’Donnell took myself and John to KU basketball game. Was the first and only time I got to see a game at the Famed KU basketball arena. That is just one the many ways He was so generous. We share a love for cars too and Mr. O’Donnell drove his brand new blue “C6” Corvette to my house with John and took me for a drive. Such a great Father! It’s evident in the way he raised his children and lead his family. You are missed! I’ll think of you when I hear the rumble of my mustang and when I hit a drive straight down the fairway. -Aaron

To the entire O'Donnell family. My deepest condolences to you on the loss on Mr. John O'Donnell. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Although I didn't know John intimately, I am thankful for John and Barb for being incredibly positive role models in the community and for raising 3 amazing children. One of which, Pat who had the nastiest and best natural curveball that helped the blue valley tigers little league baseball team be a force to be reckoned with. With love, Evan Hammett

Sending my deepest condolences to the entire O’Donnell family. I’m so grateful to have known John and be included in his family. One of my favorite memories of him was at the Engagement Dinner for Pat and my sister, Carrie. John made sure everyone had everything they needed and the quote “shrimp for everyone!” became a frequently used quip between both families. That phrase truly demonstrates not only John’s fun-loving spirit, but also his generous heart for others, making sure everyone else’s needs are met before his own. He will be missed by many, but his legacy will be carried on by everyone who had the good fortune to know him. With Love, Courtney and Charlie Loepker

John will be missed by so many people. My condolences go out to all of the family. I will always have the memories of being witness to John's hole in one, the father/son vegas golf trip with my dad and Pat that he helped make happen, and his famous "sweep the floor" dance he showcased at his children's weddings. He always had a smile on his face and made sure others around him did as well. - Drew Henderson

John was my dear friend for almost 40 years. Teresa and I especially enjoyed the many anniversaries celebrated with Barb and John, particularly their 25th in Monte Carlo. An expensive but unforgettable night. As the priest said today, John was a man of faith, family and integrity. I loved him dearly and will miss him.

Barb and the O'Donnell family, first of all thank you for allowing us to be a part of your amazing family. We are so blessed and grateful for all your friendship and opening you hearts and doors for us. Our memories of John and Barb started on the golf course and we have traveled through the years with many tears of laughter, and many Cheers to a great and not so great golf game/tournament and just being around the two of you have always been a great time. We have never laughed so hard at trying to get in the back gate at Pebble Beach, golfing in the fog at Torrey Pines and thinking it was a good shot, and walking around the auto shows. There are countless memories of your family weddings, parties, and get togethers. We are truly honored and will hold these memories close to our heart. John definitely was a Great Friend and We Will Miss Him.

Barb and family, thank you for letting us participate in an although not an ideal, conventional service it was very beautiful. There are stories to go on for days about growing up on a farm with six kids and the fun we have had celebrating so many family, golfing and business events over the years. Particularly when the “Commander of the Kansas Navy” christened our boat for us. We will miss his smile and the twinkle in his eyes when he did. John was a great big brother exemplifying what success and integrity in business, faith and most importantly strong family values looks like. Thank you John we will miss you dearly.

When Ann and I first started dating she invited me for Sunday dinner at her parents apartment. All four of her brothers were living there and so dinner was not the quiet affair I was used too. John treated me like another brother from the start (and that’s the way I always felt about him). It’s funny how much I remember about that dinner from 47 years ago but I think it’s because the humor and love around that table convinced me that marrying into this family would be a really great thing to do. And it was! John was a brother and a friend. He was funny and generous and I miss him dearly.

I find myself sitting here with a loss for words. Some way to describe such a huge life. As the Priest said John was all about Faith, Family and Integrity. He was the finest big brother any gal could want. His love was a passionate love for all. His Irish eyes were always smiling, with the famous Irish twinkle. There is no replacing a sibling, I know he will always be with me. His reunion with Mom, Dad, Ann and Mike is a great one. I love you forever Commander, Big John. Meet me at the pearly gates.

Barb, Johnny, Pat, Jen & the O’Donnell family; we are deeply saddened by John’s passing but will always be grateful for the memories of sharing special life events with him, and each of you! Can’t help but reflect on the role model he has been, always finding a way to be a ‘giver’! He leaves a wonderful legacy! Please know you have been, and will always be in our prayers!
