Jul 10, 1931---Jan 14, 2018

Victor Eugene (Gene) Kane was born July 10, 1931 and passed away January 14, 2018. Gene has gone to be with his beloved wife Diane of 55 years who preceded him in death. Gene visited Diane's gravesite daily for the last 12 years until his health declined. Together they started a legacy that included 10 children, 26 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren. A special thank you to all of Gene's neighbors who watched out for him especially the beloved Hammes Family.

The visitation will be January 17th at the Cathedral of St. Peter, 416 North 14th Street, Kansas City, KS from 4-7pm (Rosary at 4pm). Funeral Mass will be 10 am, January 18th at St. Peter's, burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. The family is very grateful for the support provided by everyone from The Kansas City Hospice House. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions to: Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Rd. KCMO 64145 and/or the Cathedral of St. Peter.

Gene retired from TWA after 42 years as a machinist and continued to work part time for 17 years at Warren Plumbing Supply. Gene loved to travel, golf and bowl and was an avid KC sports fan. He also loved to sing and had the voice of an angel. Gene always had a story or joke to tell and you never had to guess what he was thinking. Gene was an Irish spitfire and a teddy bear all wrapped into one. Gene kept busy by attending mass and his grandchildren's events. He enjoyed the chaos of a large family and loved the sound of his family's laughter. Gene is preceded in death by his wife Diane, grandson Tommy Anderson, brother in law Bob Barancik and sister in law Judy Warren. Survivors include his children and their spouses Diane and Doug Belt, Sheri and Larry Beaty, Vic and Nancy Kane, Tom and Bonnie Kane, Sandy and Don Brooks, Connie and Danny Anderson, Mike and Diane Kane, Terri and Mike Tobin, John and Kathy Kane, Mary and Rich Sutton, sister in law Sally Barancik, brother in laws Mike and Tom Warren, 26 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.

To all the family stay strong, stay together, carry on the legacy that your mom and dad started. Continue to be there for each other, laugh with each other, cry with each other. We will always be under their watchful eye. Continue to make them proud.

So sorry for your loss. Jack and Gene played football for Lillis Jack always said, if the line gave Gene an opening, no one could catch him....fastest little legs he had seen.\r\nI know he will be missed by his large, loving family.

With great sadness and sorrow I send my thoughts and prayers to my adopted childhood family. I have nothing but good memories and gratitude for being allowed to grow up with many of you and will never forget that although it was a \"little\" chaotic at times, there was unquestionable love and togetherness. I still today appreciate Gene's patience and acceptance in allowing even the somewhat rowdy neighborhood kids into his home. To the family, I will echo your favorite word growing up and end my message \"NOW\"\r\nAll my best and God Bless you all!!
