Paul G. Magill, 69, passed away at his home on Saturday, January 22, 2012 with his wife Marlene, family and friends at his side.  A memorial celebration will be held Saturday, January 28, 2012, 1:00 PM at Community Covenant Church located at 15700 W. 87th Street Parkway in Lenexa, Kansas.  Visitation will be from 12:15 - 1:00 PM.  Following the service, a reception will be held for friends and family at the Church.

Paul was born in Kansas City, Missouri on July 2, 1942 to Herb and Delores Magill.  Paul graduated from Southeast High School in 1960.  After high school Paul played baseball in the Ban Johnson League and later in the Senior 3&2 Baseball League.  Paul worked for Hallmark Cards from 1960 – 1966.  Paul entered the Sheet Metal Joint Apprenticeship Program and worked in the trade for nine years.  In 1975 Paul went to work for Chemagro, which is now Bayer Crop Science.  After retiring from Bayer as a Project Planner in 2001 he and his wife, Marlene traveled extensively through Italy and went on African safaris in Zimbabwe and Zambia.  Paul’s main recreational passion was coaching little league baseball with special attention given to training catchers.  During his years as a coach and manager he developed many lifelong friendships with athletes and other sports professionals.  As an avid cyclist, Paul biked across Kansas five times, biked the Green Mountains of Vermont as well as the Tuscan coast of Italy.  After retiring from coaching baseball and cycling he became an avid golfer.  Paul is survived by his wife, Marlene, his son Douglas and wife Shelly, his daughter, Cynthia and husband Roger, his step-son, Gregory Kennedy and his step-daughter, Jill Deitrick, and numerous grandchildren.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Kansas City Fellowship of Christian Athletes, St. Joseph Hospital Adult Chapter, 8701 Leeds Rd, KC, Mo 64129 or Community Covenant Church Memorial Fund.
