Zachary “Zach” Edward Griffin, 25, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on March 10, 2025 following a sudden illness. Visitation services will be held 3:00 - 5:00 pm on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at Porter Funeral Home in Lenexa, KS. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, March 17, 2025 at Porter Funeral Homes in Lenexa, KS. A private burial for family and close friends will take place at Olathe Memorial Cemetery on the following morning of Tuesday, March 18, 2025.
Zach was born February 9, 2000 in Overland Park, KS. He grew up in Overland Park, KS, and was actively involved in his community through Boy Scout Troop 257 and the Knox Presbyterian Church Youth Group. He became an Eagle Scout in 2018. He graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School in 2018, and from the University of Kansas in 2022, with a Bachelor’s of Science in Finance.
Zach was known for his kindness and ability to make friends with many. He had an especially strong connection with pets throughout his life, including his cats Polly, Scooter, and Thor, and his dogs, Jack and Lucy. Zach also had a strong passion for music; he played saxophone in his high school marching band and electric bass in his church worship choir. He had many sporting interests including playing tennis and golf, and watching KU sports, Chiefs Football, and Royals Baseball with friends and family. He also loved traveling the world, including Hawaii, Montreal, England, Italy, France, and Sweden.
He is survived by his parents, Grant Reed Griffin and Elaine Florence (Schoming) Griffin of Overland Park, KS; siblings, Alexander Reed Griffin and his wife Valerie of Garwood, NJ, and Jennifer Elaine Griffin of Overland Park, KS. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is accompanied and loved in heaven by his grandparents, Harold and Flossie (Karber) Schoming, Della (Reed) Thompson, and Edward Griffin, Sr.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Porter Funeral Home. These contributions will be distributed in his name among the Knox Presbyterian Church Youth Group, Boy Scout Troop 257, and the Great Plains SPCA Animal Shelter.
