Apr 07, 1933---Jan 29, 2026

Virginia Day, born April 7, 1933, in Atchison, Kansas, was called home to the Lord, surrounded by the love of her family.

Virginia was born to John A. Sullivan and Geraldine Sullivan and raised in the Catholic faith that guided her throughout her life. She graduated from Mount St. Scholastica High School and St. Scholastica College in Atchison, Kansas. She married Robert F. Cunningham in Atchison, and together they were blessed with five children: Lisa, Susan, Jennifer, Colleen, and Chris.

Virginia lived for twenty years in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, where her faith found expression through extensive volunteer service. She generously gave her time to the Minneapolis–St. Paul Diocese, Archdiocese Council for the Guild of Catholic Women (ACCW). She developed the National Catholic Rice Bowl Operation for hunger and dedicated many hours to her local parish. She worked for the Home of the Good Shepherd and as a Volunteer Coordinator in Shoreview, Minnesota, serving others with compassion and humility.

She later moved to Del Mar, California, where she married William R. Day, and eventually settled in Fairway, Kansas, which she called home for more than twenty years.

Virginia found joy in God’s creation through visits with family and friends, peaceful walks on the beach, and tending her garden. She was deeply devoted to her family and remained a source of love, guidance, and prayer throughout her life. Her quiet faith, kindness, and generous spirit were a blessing to all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Geraldine Sullivan, and her husbands, Robert F. Cunningham and William R. Day.

Virginia is survived by her children Lisa, Susan and her husband Gary, Jennifer, Colleen, and Chris and his wife Corrine; her grandchildren Jason and his wife, Megan, Father Scott, Andrew, Derek, and Shane; and her great-grandchildren George, Henry, Patrick, Olivia, and Teddy.

We rejoice in the promise of eternal life and entrust Virginia to God’s loving care, confident that she now rests in His peace. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

The Rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. with the visitation from 3-5 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11 at the Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS. The Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 12 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 5250 Mission Rd., Roeland Park, KS. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Ann's Cemetery, Effingham, KS.
