Timothy “TJ” Wilson, 46, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
TJ lived a life defined not by limitation, but by quiet strength, intelligence, and kindness. From childhood, he faced significant health challenges with resilience and courage. Though his journey was often difficult, those who knew him best saw his gentle spirit, dry humor, and extraordinary mind.
TJ had a lifelong passion for cars and track racing, a love shared with his dad, his brother John and sister Jenny, and his brother-in-law Chaz. Some of his happiest moments were spent at the track — especially when he and John raced together. TJ also shared a love of design with his sister Anne. One of their most cherished memories was collaborating on the remodel of his home designing a space that reflected his unique and creative style.
Professionally, TJ was an exceptionally talented designer. He worked for many years at Burns & McDonnell and later with other engineering firms. He had a remarkable ability to see how things fit together — both on paper and in the world around him.
TJ was blessed with a steadfast circle of friends, some dating back to grade school and others from his neighborhood, who meant a great deal to him. Their friendship, shared memories and support over the years were an incredibly special and meaningful part of his life.
Above all, TJ loved his family and his beloved dog, Wallie. Wallie was his constant companion and brought him endless comfort and joy. TJ was an amazing son, brother and uncle, and we will forever be thankful that he was ours.
He is survived by his parents, Mary and Marv Wilson of Overland Park, Kansas, whose steady love shaped the humility, optimism, and grace that he carried with him throughout his life. He is also survived by his siblings, Jenny Wright and her husband, Doug, of St. Petersburg, Florida; John Wilson and his wife, Carrie, of Shawnee, Kansas; Anne Broome and her husband, Chaz, of Overland Park, Kansas; nieces Rylee McCullough and her husband, Caleb, and Amy Wilson; along with many cherished friends, aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members who will carry his memory forward.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
We want to thank the countless doctors, nurses and caregivers who cared for TJ throughout his life, especially the incredible team at KU Medical Center. We are so thankful for the compassion and dedication they showed him and our family. Though TJ’s earthly life included many challenges, those who love him find comfort in the knowledge that he is now whole, restored, and at peace.
A private service and graveside burial in the Catholic faith will be held for immediate family at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Lenexa, Kansas, on Thursday, February 19 at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of TJ’s life on Saturday, February 21 from 1:00–4:00 p.m. at his parents’ home in Overland Park. This informal open house gathering will be an opportunity to celebrate the joy that TJ brought into the lives of those who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor TJ’s memory by extending kindness to someone facing unseen challenges, or by supporting one of the following local organizations: Uplift.org, the Greater KU Medical Center Fund (through KU Endowment), or Great Plains SPCA.
