Jul 28, 1931---Jun 26, 2026

Theodore Emerson Moon, age 94, passed peacefully into his heavenly home on June 26, 2026.

Ted was born on July 28, 1931, in Emporia, Kansas, to Merle Oswald Moon and Edith Maud Moon. At the age of six, he moved with his family to Ottawa, Kansas, where he grew up and graduated from Ottawa High School in 1950. Shortly after graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army and served honorably in the Korean Theater.

Following his military service, Ted began a long and dedicated career in the skilled trades. He was first employed at the General Motors Fairfax plant in Kansas City, Kansas, where jet fighters were being built for the United States Air Force. The metalworking and fabrication expertise he developed there became the foundation for his lifelong career. Ted later worked for Bendix and ultimately concluded his professional journey at Trans World Airlines (TWA) as a sheet metal mechanic.

Ted met the love of his life, Lois, while living in Ottawa. The two were united in marriage on January 9, 1955, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned more than 71½ years. Together they made their home in Kansas City, Kansas, where they raised their two sons, David and Bradley, in the Piper School District.

A man of many interests, Ted was especially passionate about restoring antique automobiles. Among his cherished projects were a 1931 Model A, a 1966 Mustang, and a 1958 Ford Retractable. His craftsmanship and dedication earned him first place honors in 1979 at the International Retractable Hardtop Club. He also served as President of the Heart of America Model A Club, sharing his enthusiasm with fellow enthusiasts. In addition, Ted gave generously of his time as a Scout leader and counselor.

Ted’s faith was an enduring cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted Trustee at Maywood Community Church, where he faithfully served his congregation for 50 years.

Together, Ted and Lois shared a love for travel and adventure, visiting six of the seven continents during their lifetime—leaving only Antarctica unexplored.

Ted is survived by his beloved wife, Lois Moon; his sons, David Moon and his wife Sandy, and Bradley Moon; and his grandchildren, Natalie Moon and Jonathan Moon. He is also remembered fondly by extended family members and friends whose lives he touched with his kindness, craftsmanship, and steady devotion.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Maywood Community Church, 11201 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas 66109, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m.

Ted’s life was defined by service, skill, faith, and love—a legacy that will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
