Susan Kay Hansen, lovingly known as Sue, Aunt Susie, and Memaw, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, in Olathe, Kansas, at the age of 78.
Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on March 25, 1947, Sue was the cherished daughter of Max and Betty Hayward (Cary). She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 34 years, Terry Wayne Hansen, and her brother Jim Hayward.
Sue’s life was a testament to love, service, and unwavering support. She was the best friend, biggest cheerleader, caregiver, and confidante to all who knew her. Her warmth and generosity touched countless lives, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she inspired.
She is survived by her devoted daughters, Amy Sims and Sara Elmore, along with Sara’s husband, Kurt Elmore, all of Lenexa, Kansas. Sue was a proud and loving grandmother to Sydney Elmore, Max Elmore, Ryker Sims, and Savannah Sims. She also leaves behind her dear sister, Jane Hayward.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 8 at 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS 66215. In the spring, a burial service and celebration of life will take place in Omaha, Nebraska, where Sue will be laid to rest beside her husband.
Sue was loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life was fulfilled by helping others, and her spirit will continue to guide and uplift those she leaves behind.
