Stephen Anthony Perkins Jr., 18, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 12, 2026, due to an undetected heart defect.

Stephen graduated from Arrowhead Day School in May 2026 and was looking forward to beginning classes at Kansas City Kansas Community College this fall. He approached life with optimism, kindness, and a caring heart. Stephen had a warm smile, a gentle spirit, and a positive outlook that touched the lives of those who knew and loved him. Though his time with us was far too short, he leaves behind countless memories that will be cherished forever.

Stephen is survived by his father, Stephen Anthony Perkins Sr.; his siblings, Jazmyn, Erika, Olivia, Lucas, Bella, Nina, and Anthony; his grandparents, Dennis and Terri Perkins; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will deeply miss him.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Dorothy Shenk, and his uncle Lucas Elledge. 

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Stephen's life during a visitation from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia Street, Lenexa, Kansas.Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens in Shawnee, Kansas.

Stephen's kindness, gentle nature, and the love he shared with others will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will be treasured always, and he will never be forgotten.

No greater joy comes into this world than a little bundle of love that a family watches grow into a fine young man, but in such times, no mere words will take away the pain that all are feeling. I can only hope that, amidst your tears, you can find a measure of comfort in God’s promises. For God’s love is proved by his memory of Stephen in every detail, and if not one sparrow (Mt.10:29, 31) falls to the ground without His notice, certainly God will not forget your precious son/brother, nor the promises He holds out for all. Death was never God’s plan (Gen.1:28; Rom. 5:12), and one day death will be no more (Rev.21:4) as loved ones will be resurrected (Acts 24:15; John 5:28,29) with the hope of life forever in paradise, on earth (Ps. 37:11,29) as God intended from the beginning. Cherish the hope and the memories of your beloved Stephen.
