Sherry was born November 13, 1951, in Lisbon, Iowa, to Roselee (Rose) Mary Nation and Orvin Kent Frink. The oldest of four children, Sherry began a lifetime of caregiving and love as the family moved from Lisbon to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and then to Leavenworth, Kansas in 1964. Upon graduating from Leavenworth High School in 1970, Sherry moved to Kansas City to attend St. Luke’s School of Nursing and commence a forty-plus year career for St. Luke’s Hospital, the University of Kansas Medical Center, and Grace Hospice. In 1975, she married Dr. Paul Gregory Diederich and began a family that found its home in Roeland Park, Kansas. In addition to her nursing career, Sherry became an avid student of Bowen Family Systems Theory and found deep purpose in studying and learning to understand the dynamics that shape relationships inside of families. She was a lifelong learner, loved to be near water (even learning to sail and surf later in life), and took great joy in causing playful trouble for her friends and family.
Sherry is preceded in death by her parents, nephew Daniel Eklund, sister-in-law Collette Huerter, and brothers-in-law Dean and Denny Diederich. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Paul, her children, Emily (Tim), Ben (Ruth), Matt (Ashley), Angie (Wesley), Sam (Lindsay), and John, her six grandchildren, Patrick, Max, Vivian, Marilyn, Annabelle, and Sullivan, her brother, Darryl, her sisters, Karen and Dinah, and numerous nieces and nephews.
