Rosemary (Voeste) Fladung, 98, of Overland Park, KS passed away peacefully on Tues., March 18, 2025. Visitation will be Thurs., March 27 from 9:30-11am at Curé of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Rd Leawood, KS 66206 followed by Mass 11am-noon. Burial at 1:30pm at Resurrection Cemetery 8300 Quivira Road Lenexa, KS 66215.
Rosemary was born July 14, 1926 in Olpe, Kansas to Frederick Joseph Voeste, President of the Olpe State Bank and Louise Clara (Rossillon) Voeste, proprietor of the Olpe Corner Store. Rosemary was the youngest of her siblings Lucile, Fred, and Helen. Rosemary attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Olpe, then St. Mary’s College in Leavenworth, Kansas for 2 years (during WWII) majoring in music. In 1946, she transferred to Emporia State Teacher’s College joining the Delta Zeta Sorority. There she met Jerome Fladung, a former Navy engineer. In Spring 1948, Rosemary graduated with a Major in Business and a Minor in Music. Her first job out of college was an attorney’s secretary in Topeka, KS.
June 18, 1949 Rosemary married Jerome Francis Fladung at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olpe, KS. They lived in Manhattan, KS where Jerry was a student and Rosemary worked as a professor’s secretary. Their first child was born during Jerry’s finals week May 1950. When Jerry graduated Dec. 1950, and took his first job with Black & Veatch Jan. 1951, they shared a house on 79th St. in Kansas City. Then they had an apartment on the Country Club Plaza until their second child was born. At 7132 Horton St. three more children arrived. In 1965 they built their forever home at 5002 West 96th Terrace in Overland Park, KS. Rosemary “commuted” when Jerry worked for Black and Veatch in Torrance, CA for almost 5 years.
Rosemary and Jerry were actively involved together in gardening, Boy Scouts, Queens Players, Dinner Club, their Catholic parishes, Saddle and Sirloin Country Club, volunteering for hospitals, schools, Catholic charity thrift stores, Republican politics, and engineering professional groups. Rosemary was a den mother for scouts for 5 years and helped with the Camp Fire Girls . She enjoyed playing bridge with friends. Her favorite cars were her four Lincolns. She collected music boxes and stained glass. Their highest priority was their family manifested in festive Christmas and birthday celebrations, ski trips, float trips, a family cruise, annual Lily’s Landing family reunions and bringing the whole family together whenever possible. She found joy in the outdoors,
Rosemary’s life was one of service:
*Officer of the MSPE wives club
*Officer of Pi Kappa Alpha, Beta Gamma mother’s club
*Volunteered at American Royal with the Saddle and Sirloin Club
*Volunteered at many schools: Queen of the Holy Rosary, Bishop Miege, Rockhurst, Trailwood, Curé of Ars in Overland Park, KS and St. Lawrence in Palos Verdes, CA.
*Volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City, MO for over 6,000 hours and Little Company of Mary in Torrance, CA.
*In Republican politics: Rosemary was on the Third District Committee, Representative of the State Republican Committee, Republican Chairman of the election polling site, and on various campaign committees. In the 1970’s Rosemary was a paid political appointee working in the office for the 1970 Census. She served as Republican Precinct Committeewoman in Overland Park, KS.
Rosemary excelled at music by playing the piano, organ and singing in choirs at Queen of the Holy Rosary, Curé of Ars Catholic Church and the JCCC Chorus.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Jerome Francis Fladung, on August 12, 2015.
Rosemary is survived by 5 children: Kathlyn (Dale) Wheeler, Philip (Betsy) Fladung, Richard (Lynn) Fladung, Tricia (Mark) Raab, Eric Fladung (Penny); 11 grandchildren: Bonnie (Cory) Popia, Stephanie (John) Lee, Rebecca Wheeler (Trinidad); Chris (Tamara) Fladung, David (Lauren) Fladung; Daniel Fladung, Erica Fladung, Derek Fladung; Katie Zotti, Laura (Matt) Morrissey, Chris (Ariana) Raab; and 15 great-grandchildren: Cate Popia, Connor Popia; Max Lee, Penny Lee; Henry Fladung, Elijah Fladung, Isabel Fladung, Wyatt Fladung, Everett Fladung, Harvey Fladung; Ethan Fladung, Carson Fladung, Brooklyn Fladung; Ella Zotti, Liv Rife. Rosemary is also survived by sister-in-law, Norma Jean Burdis, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
