It is with profound sadness and much love that we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Henry Madrigal, age 80. He departed on his final journey to heaven on Sunday, June 21st, 2026 at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was born May 5, 1946 and proudly represented and celebrated his Cinco de Mayo heritage. Bob was the son of Jose and Elvira Lazzro Madrigal of Kansas City, KS.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother & father, his brother Rudolfo “Rudy” & sisters Estella “Tita” Segura, Josephine, Frances & Linda. He was welcomed into heaven by many other loved ones.
Bob is survived by his wife Sharon of Branson, MO of 25 years, his children Rob (Sherri) Madrigal of Tucson, AZ, Jackie (Chad) Bond of Kissee Mills, MO, Tina (Thomas) Hall of Bergman, AR, Jason Miller of Kansas City, MO. and Timothy Miller of Leavenworth KS.
Bob met Sharon in 1999, and they were united in marriage on December 29, 2000. At this time the two families had blended together to include their wonderful grandchildren Jordan & Isabel Bond, Shyanne (Brady) Miller, Thomas (Andhi) Hall, Cassie Hall, Aaron (Dakota) Williams, Joshua Williams, Brittani Schadler (Art Espinoza) & Tristen Miller. As their family continues to grow, Bob has been blessed with great grandchildren Atlas Hall, Emery Williams & currently awaiting the arrival of Chloe Williams. He has & will continue to always be known to each of his grandkids & his great-grandkids as “Papaw.”
Sadly, Bob lost his mother at one-year of age but was raised by his father “Pop” and his older brother Rudy and sister Tita. As a child and teenager, Bob attended Saint Thomas School in Armourdale where he served as an alter-boy. Bob attended Central Jr High School and Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, KS.
When Bob was 19, he was selected for the draft. At that time his good friend J.O. Maze was also turning 18 and they decided to go down to the recruiting office on Minnesota Ave together. They were hoping they could enlist in the Army and be able to use their mechanical skills to better their job selection. While they were at the recruiter they ran into J.O. 's cousin Danny Jenkins who was also there enlisting. All three of them joined under the “Buddy System” to guarantee they could all stick together. They departed for Ft. Leonard Wood, MO for Basic Training on 11 January 1966.
After basic training Bob was selected for aircraft training in Fort. Rucker, AL. He also attended training in Fort Bragg, NC and Fort Lewis in WA. After training Bob received his orders for Vietnam. He was an OV-1 Mohawk Crew Chief stationed in Da Nang, Vietnam. Bob spent 364 days in Vietnam – just shy of 1 year. Upon returning home he was Honorably Discharged as an E-5 Specialist. His Army Service dates were 11 Jan 1966 – 4 Oct 1968. It was very difficult to be a servicemember coming home from the war in the 60s, but Bob was very proud of his service to this country and being a Vietnam Veteran.
After discharge from the Army Bob worked various jobs around his community as well as volunteering his precious time wherever he was needed. He began the next chapter of his story creating his new family with his son Robbie then daughter Jackie. Being a father brought Bob the purest joy.
In 1974 Bob began his career at the General Motors Fairfax plant in KC, KS and was employed there until his retirement in 2004. During his tenure he was a member of the UAW Local 31 and held various positions in the union during those 32 years & 8 months with the GM family, as he liked to say.
Bob was a fun loving, adventurous, faithful, and trustworthy man. No one that met Bob could ever forget his infectious passion for classic cars, his love for his Blues, tinkering around in his garage, random photo shoots with his Harley & spending quality time with his beautiful family. He was always willing to lend a hand and help anyone in need.
We remember Bob as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, uncle, friend, neighbor and overall a stranger to no one. His passion, love, and loyalty will continue to inspire and guide us. His memory will be forever etched into the hearts of those he has impacted. The family hopes you will make an appearance in your Bob inspired attire; KC Chiefs attire, Red gear, blues or classic car shirt or whatever reminds you of Bob.
