Reverend Thomas David Skaggs was born on November 12, 1953, and entered into heavenly rest on November 2, 2024. He was raised in Kansas City, Kansas, with his parents, Norman Sr. and Aneita Skaggs. He loved his hometown, and it is where he first developed his love for BBQ, the Kansas City Chiefs, and Pepsi.
He was called into the ministry at a young age at Victoria Tabernacle under the mentorship of H.W. Barnett, where he also met the love of his life of 50 years, Gerri Lynn Skaggs (Ellington). After graduating from Wyandotte High School, he attended Central Bible College, where he became a licensed and ordained minister with the Assembly of God. He continued to pastor local churches in the Kansas City area for 40 years and committed his life to leading people to know the Lord, even until his final days.
Those who knew him from a young age referred to him as “Tommy” and always spoke of his love for music and his beautiful voice. He used his voice to minister in song at local churches, mission trips, and community outreaches and had the unique ability to turn any conversation or story into a sing-along. His love for people stretched beyond the walls of his churches and made an impact on the hearts of all who encountered him.
He loved his family with all of his heart. His sense of humor, contagious smile, and quick wit will be missed dearly. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Gerri Lynn Skaggs, brother Norman Jr. (Karen) Skaggs, sister Carol (Howard) Whitley, sister Peggy (Larry) Parsons and children Bryce (Hannah) Skaggs, Andrea (Clint) Carr, 4 grandchildren; Zoe, Liam, Joely and Isaac Skaggs and many other beloved family members. He was preceded in death by his parents Norman Sr. and Aneita (Cox) Skaggs, brothers, Jim Skaggs, Joe Skaggs and sister Dorothy Gutierrez.
A Celebration of his life will be held at The Hill Ministries, 4945 Old K 7 Road, Shawnee, Kansas 66226. The Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by services at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2024.
