Philip Whiles of KCK passed away from a brief battle with Colorectal cancer on November 25th. Born in Kansas City, KS to Vernon and Dawn Whiles (Hotaling), Philip was a lifelong resident of Wyandotte County. Philip worked many years for Wyandotte County Road and Bridge and after the county/city merge went on to work for Wyandotte Co. Parks and Recreation. He later joined Concrete Materials until his recent retirement. During the 80’s and 90’s, Phil dedicated a lot of his time to the 3&2 baseball club where he loved to coach youth baseball and held many positions on the board. Phil preferred to spend his leisure time at his local establishment, where he regularly organized Texas Hold’em tournaments.

Phil is survived by his former wife of 25 years, Denise Whiles. His two children Tina (Brian) Bridges of Overland Park, Ks and Chuck (Diana) Whiles of KCKS and 5 grandchildren, Brian Whiles, Halia (Colton) Beebe, Autumn (Parker) Harmon, Macie Bridges, Gaven Whiles and a great-granddaughter on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Whiles, Dawn Whiles, a sister Catherine Whiles, and ½ Brother Max Whiles.

The family would like to Thank Phoenix Hospice for their exceptional care and support during his brief time with them and would also like to thank his friend and caretaker for the last few months, Jana.

Please join the family on Saturday, December 6, 2025 from 10:00am-12:00 noon at Chicago’s, 534 Central Ave, Kansas City, KS for a celebration of life.

I went to High school with Phil. We would run into each other often and talk and joke about things we did in high school. He was a real jokster and will be missed by many. Rest in peace my friend until we meet again. Ruth

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see much of Phil the last few months due to my new job and his dedication to caregiving for Denise. Then later his illness. I played Texas Holdem and was harassed by him each and every time. lol He will be missed at one of our favorite establishment where I met him almost 20 years ago it will not be the same there without his never ending sarcasm and favorite phrases. RIP Phil, say hello to Jessie, Manuel, and the any others that left us in the past years.
