Jan 07, 1949---Dec 03, 2025
Michael John Dolan passed away on December 3, 2025. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a devout Catholic who proudly served as a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus.

Born on January 7, 1949 of New Haven, Connecticut, Michael grew up with strong values and a determination that guided him throughout his life. He graduated from Providence College in 1970 before beginning a distinguished 20-year career in the United States Army. Michael honorably served as a Ranger, Cobra Pilot, and Airborne soldier, ultimately retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His service, courage, and leadership were a source of great pride for his family.

Michael married the love of his life, Dolores, on July 31, 1971, in Cumberland, Rhode Island. Together they built a life rooted in love, commitment, faith, and family.

He was the proud father of five children: Sean, married to Joann; Dan, married to Trina; Chris, married to Natalie; Shannon, married to Chris; and Erin, married to Nathan. He deeply loved his eleven grandchildren—Austin, Madison, Brayden, Rylee, Colyn, Liam, Taylor, Dylan, Matthew, Landon, and Bennett—who brought him immense joy.

Michael is survived by his wife, Dolores; his children and grandchildren; and his sisters Kathy (Marybeth Dean) Marjorie; and Eileen (Edward). He also leaves behind a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Marjorie Dolan of Clinton, Connecticut.

A visitation and rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9th at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Basehor, Kansas, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m.  Michael will be laid to rest at Leavenworth National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Wounded Warriors  in honor of Michael.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who have offered prayers, love, and support during this difficult time.  Your kindness has been a great comfort.

“As Dad always started every prayer… We have a lot to be thankful for.”

Neighbor ,Kansas City ,Kansas

We’re sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. His obituary was a wonderful tribute to Mike and his family. He was devoted to Dee, and it always showed. He loved his family and it was a pleasure seeing the kids and grandkids stopping by. We got a kick out of the “Dolan Rock” our daughter is named Jennifer Dolan Herdman and there were many Dolan’s in Mary Jane’s Irish family. He was a steady force for our neighborhood and we me were proud to be his neighbor, if only for a few years. Love to the family. Dave Herdman.
