Michael Gene Boyer, 70, of Lenexa, KS, died Oct. 30, 2024, in hospice care, surrounded by his wife and three children. Following his wishes, he has been cremated, and his family will have a private ceremony to spread his ashes at a later date. A celebration of life will be held 5-9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at the Thompson Barn, 11184 Lackman Rd, Lenexa, KS 66219. The family requests no flowers and suggests memorial contributions to Cure ARS at curears.org/donation, in support of his grandson, who is affected by the disease.
Mike was born Aug. 6, 1954, in Kansas City, KS, to Gerald and Bonnie Boyer. He spent his childhood in KCK until his family moved to Prairie Village in 1969, and he graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School in 1972. In high school, he was a member of the golf and debate teams. He also continued to visit friends in Wyandotte County and reconnected with his grade school classmate, Peggy Pomerenke. He and Peggy attended the University of Kansas, where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. They married after graduating in 1976, and Mike began working for the company his grandfather founded, PROSOCO, Inc. In 1983, Mike and Peggy built their family home in Lenexa, where they raised their children and continued to reside until his death. After two decades with his family’s company, Mike turned to working in the stock market, and working from home later allowed him to spend more time with his grandchildren, who were a great source of joy. Mike also enjoyed getaways to the lake, beginning when he was just 2 years old at his family’s cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks and most recently at Beaver Lake in Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Peggy Boyer; his children and their spouses, Andrew and Kristine Boyer, Caroline and Jason Faulkender, and Kimberly and John Herriges; five grandchildren, Austin, Emily, Ava, Annora and Brooks, with another grandson on the way; his brothers and their wives, David and Anita Boyer and Bruce and Debbie Boyer; his sister, Denise Curtis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
