Michael Anthony Carroll was born June 16th, 1936, in Kansas City, Kansas the son of John and Catherine Carroll. Mike was the proud grandson of Irish immigrants. Mikes and his four siblings: John, Marie, Barney and Joe grew up in KCK where he attended St. Benedicts grade school, Maur Hill and Bishop Ward High Schools, graduating from Bishop Ward in 1954. He graduated from Donnelly College in 1958. Mike spent a 1 ½ years contemplating his call to the Priesthood in Menominee, Michigan. He choose to take his love of the Catholic Church and live it out in the sacrament of Holy Matrimony.
Mike married the love of his life, Susan (Slaughter) Carroll in 1963 at the Cathedral of St. Peter’s in KCK where they raised their four children: Shannon Epping (Ken), Michael Carroll, Jr. (Robin), Kevin Carroll (Amy) and Mary Stankiewicz. They welcomed 11 grandchildren into the world during their 61 years of marriage. Sarah Epping, Madison Epping, Liam Carroll, Seamus Carroll, Logan Carroll (Kaitlyn), Jacob Carroll (Morgan) Braden Carroll (Emily), Grace Carroll, Max Hertel, Ben Hertel and Ellie Stankiewicz.
Mike is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren, brother Lt. Col. John E. Carroll, Jr. (Marilyn), his sister-in-law Nancy Carroll and his cousin Mary Frances Fehr. He was preceded in death by his dad John Carroll, his mother Catherine Carroll, his sister Marie Cooke, his brothers Barney and Joe Carroll (Jerri) and Charlie Fehr.
His work career held a variety of experiences, including working for Rock Island Railroad, J.B. Roerig & Company, as a Pharmaceutical Sales Rep, Modern Talking Pictures (an Educational Film Company), Wilson’s Aero Space school and, for 25 years, the Board of Public Utilities.
Mike died peacefully at The University of Kansas Hospital surrounded by his family. Mike (Papa) will forever be remembered for his kind and generous spirit and his Irish wit. Papa was loved by everyone he touched in his life.
The Funeral will be held on Thursday, July 18th, 2024, at The Cathedral of Saint Peter the Apostle at 416 N. 14th Street, Kansas City, KS 66102. Visitation will be at the church at 10:00 AM immediately followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow immediately after the funeral at Mount Calvary Cemetery 1150 N. 38th Street, Kansas City, KS 66102. A reception will follow at The Cathedral of Saint Peter the Apostle Parish Center.
In lieu of flowers the family welcomes contributions to the Cathedral of St. Peter.
