Michael A. Rhoades passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease on November 9, 2024, at the age of 76. Mike “Dusty” was a devoted husband, father, grandfather “Coach”, brother, and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Millie Rhoades, and his beloved son, Richard “R.J.” Rhoades.
Mike leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Michele; his daughter Jennifer Walters (Steve); son Michael Rhoades (Tiffany); and his cherished grandchildren, Dylan (Rachel), Trevor, and Aidan Walters, Quintan and Finley Rhoades, his sister, Patty Draskovich (Joe), along with many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and countless friends whose lives he touched deeply.
Mike was born on January 9, 1948, in Osceola, MO, and then became a lifelong Kansas City resident. He attended St. Ann Catholic School and later graduated from Bishop Miege High School class of 1966. He was proud to be an Evans Scholar at the University of Missouri-Columbia class of 1970. Mike served in the Army National Guard from 1970 to 1976.
In his professional life, Mike was a successful business owner, co-owning Missouri Conrad Liquor Company and Hightech Signs with his business partner, Dick Robinson. His leadership, work ethic, and ability to build lasting relationships were hallmarks of his career.
Mike’s true passion lay in his deep love of sports, especially golf. He shared his expertise and enthusiasm by coaching youth teams in a variety of sports, including women's golf at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), and boys' and girls' golf at Bishop Miege. Mike also served as the golf director for the Greater Kansas City YMCA, where he inspired countless young athletes. His passion for the game was not just limited to coaching-he was a skilled player, with three hole-in-ones to his name. A past president of Blue Hills Country Club, he was also a Club and Senior Club Champion, and his love of the game was only surpassed by his love of sharing it with others and winning bets.
Mike’s passion for sports didn’t end on the golf course. He also served as an announcer for men’s basketball at UMKC, and for basketball and football at Bishop Miege. He was a devoted coach and spectator to his own children and grandchildren, sharing his knowledge and love with them through countless hours of practice and encouragement.
Mike was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Parish, where he lived his faith with love, generosity, and kindness.
Rosary at 5 p.m. followed by a Visitation from 5:15 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64145. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 8300 Quivira Road, Lenexa, KS 66215.

or the Evans Scholars Foundation, organizations that were dear to his heart.
Mike’s family and friends will remember him for his unwavering love, dedication, and generosity. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he impacted, and his memory will continue to be a source of strength and inspiration for all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
