Mary Westbrock Amor passed away September 16, 2025. Mary had been battling cancer for several years.
Mary is survived by a beautiful, blended family: husband Dale Messer; children Peggy (Shaun) Amor, Victoria Amor, Ian Amor, Jessica (Bryon) Brooks, and Tim Messer; four grandchildren - Maggie, Clara, Lexie, and Molly; her sister Michelle (Randy) Hamilton; and her siblings-in-law Karen (Tom) Brouns, Janice (Richard) Watters, Lois (Steven) Thesing, Mary (Kurt) Orth, Rose (Mark) Bankers, and Philip (Wanda) Messer. Mary also leaves behind her honorary-sister Greta O’Brien and her sorority sisters of Beta Sigma Phi.
Mary lived a life of service, caring for her family with enthusiasm, dedicating her time to her life-long parish Queen of the Holy Rosary and to the Girl Scouts.
Like all educators, Mary’s legacy spans a wide web of children and families she taught over her career. She adored “her little people” spending much of her career in early childhood and Montessori primary classrooms. More than one family has called Mary “the child whisperer”. She had a gift for helping young children find their way to safely and freely express themselves while nurturing the love for learning natural in all children. Mary earned her teaching degree from Emporia State University and later her Montessori Certification from the Montessori Training Center of St. Louis.
Visitation (9:30am), Rosary (10:10am), and Funeral Mass (10:30am) will be held at Queen of the Holy Rosary, Monday, September 22, 2025. Luncheon to follow in the Church Hall. Memorial donations are encouraged to The Children’s Garden or Queen of the Holy Rosary Parish.
