Feb 26, 1951---Nov 01, 2024

Mary Jane “Janey” Sixta Kuzila, 73, of Lenexa, KS (formerly of Lincoln, Nebraska), passed away Thursday November 1, 2024.  The Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. with the Visitation following until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, at the Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia Lenexa, KS. The Funeral Mass will be Friday, November 8, at 10:30 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Lenexa, Kansas. A reception will follow at the Church.  Burial in Spring Grove Cemetery, Jefferson County, Kansas.

Janey was born on February 26, 1951, to Joseph and Mary (Weber) Sixta in Kansas City, KS. She graduated from Bishop Ward High School in 1969 and attended Kansas State University. She met her husband Mark on a blind date, a match made in heaven, that resulted in 52 years of marriage. Janey and Mark moved to Nebraska in 1975, and they spent 41 “Good Life” years there. She worked as a dental assistant and supported the family while Mark finished school. She worked until her family life called her to be “just a mom”, as she would say.  Janey had five Husker children. She enjoyed having her children spread out in ages because it kept her as a mom longer. She kept busy taking care of everything, especially when Mark went back to school and when he was working out of town.

Janey was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She had strong faith and was prayerful. She provided the family with the foundation of their Catholic faith. Throughout the years she and Mark grew in faith together. She enjoyed simple things like taking walks, cool evenings by the fire, and taking road trips all over the country.  Her biggest joy was to be together with Mark and her children and grandchildren. She was known to eat ice cream every Sunday night, right out of the carton. Her obituary picture, taken in 2021 at a Mother’s Day dinner, captures her spirit and beauty.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary (Weber) and Joseph Sixta, her brother Joe “Woody” Sixta, and her brother-in-law, Phillip Kuzila. She is survived by her husband, Mark and children; Amy (Steve) Slaughter, Matt (Arianna) Kuzila, Bridget (Mark) Craig, Peter (Brittney) Kuzila and Justin Kuzila, grandchildren Finnegan and Hudson Slaughter, Theo, Zach, and Caleb Kuzila, and Pemberly, Gwyneth, and Turner Craig, sisters, Susie Taylor, Ruthie (Rick) Wiseman, Shelly (Barry) Sullivan, sister-in-law, Mary Sixta, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Teresa Catholic Church Lincoln, NE.

I am heartbroken to hear of Janey's passing. She was a kind, loving woman that spread her cheerfulness and fun loving spirit to all that encountered her. Janey was a wonderful friend for over 54 years, we made cherished memories of our time at Ward High. She brought joy and laughter to our Girls Night Out, and everyone enjoyed sharing stories about our families. Janey's beautiful spirit and smile will be missed. Rest well Janey! You are loved and missed!

Janey and I had a long strong friendship 55 years to be exact. Even though we lived apart for 40 years we stayed strong as friends as I did with Mark. Thank you Janey for the fantastic memories and friendship. You were one heck of a fighter during your illness and stayed strong to the end. My heart is broken. but Jesus needed another angel to keep watch over Mark, your Children, your beautiful Grandchildren and Sisters. Until, we meet again keep watch over them and your GNO Ladies. I miss you GF. Tree

I was so sorry to hear that Janey passed away. I have known Janey since our days at Christ the King. She was such a fun, sweet person. I didn't see her much after we graduated, except at our reunions. But she was always the same, a genuine joy to be around. I saw her last at the CTK reunion mass earlier this year, and we had a good visit. I know she will be dearly missed by so many. God bless and comfort Mark and the family, and her many friends.

I met Janey when we were in high school at Bishop Ward. We were part of a group of girls that often shared rides to events. We had lots of fun on the way and during those events, Janey was a big part of that. She was always happy. Her laugh was contagious. I can still hear it. We visited her at K State and my son and I visited her at her Nebraska home. She would always make time for you and be welcoming. I'm praying for Mark and her family and hoping that she can welcome us all in heaven some day.

Janey and I named our friendship as Bleach friends. Our kids went to St Teresa's and Pius but not in the same grades so we got to know each other by sitting on the softball field bleachers watching our husband's play softball. Janey was so fun to visit with. We would share stories, laugh and visit the entire game. The men knew to not ask for a score keeper because the page would be blank. Our friendship grew to home visits when they moved to KC. We continued updating each other over dinner and an evening together. Mark, thank you for your delivery of honey this fall. Janey kept her beauty even during her illness. It was good to see her. Prayers will be sent everytime I enjoy your or other honey snacks.

My sympathy to Janey’s family. I didn’t know her but remember once at grandma Sixta’s with ‘Woody’ there too, -to me he was big giant college looking guy-, us being down at that creek tunnel on 55th near grandpa’s barn and sloshing through it with some Wilsons and grandma coming out and yelling at him get out of there with those kids! Our mom bunny came down and chased us all out. It always seemed like peaceful times at grandma’s. May she rest in peace.
