Martin “Marty” John McGinley, age 53, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish, 14251 Nall Ave, Leawood, KS 66223, with Father Brian Schieber as Celebrant. The Rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. A reception will follow the Mass.

Born on July 21, 1972, in Owatonna, Minnesota, Marty was the son of Roger McGinley and Arlene Smith. He married Jami Jacobi McGinley on June 24, 1995, and together they shared 30 years of marriage.

Marty earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He went on to earn his MBA from Rockhurst University and a Master’s in Project Management from George Washington University. He dedicated his career to advancing the telecommunications industry, holding roles at Sprint, Palm, HTC, Arm and most recently serving as Director of Business Development at Wi-Fi Alliance.

Marty was a devoted father who cherished time spent with his family, particularly enjoying boating and relaxing by the lake. He took great pride in providing a wonderful life for his sons and witnessing their growth and success. Along with his sons, his dog Carlie was a loyal companion who brought him plenty of joy, whether they were playing or snuggling on their favorite spot on the couch. Known for his quick witted sense of humor, Marty could always be counted on to bring laughter to any room. He loved to play fantasy football with family and friends, while keeping up with the Kansas City Chiefs. A true sports fan, Marty was also passionate about the Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics.

In recent years, he and Jami split their time between Overland Park, Kansas, and Pittsboro, North Carolina. The family also made lasting memories over the years at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Marty is survived by his wife, Jami; his three sons, Brady (Lesly) McGinley of Carrollton, Texas, Logan McGinley of Olathe, Kansas, and Graham McGinley of Overland Park, Kansas; his mother, Arlene Smith; his sisters, Shelly (Mark) Pritzl and Tracy Mitchell.

Marty was not only a close friend, but in many ways like my son. Many many fond memories together in Overland Park and at the Lake of the Ozarks. I will forever remember him as a kind individual, full of humor, lover of sports, driven to be a great father and a successful business man. Marty set the gold standard for all men. I will miss him greatly!

I have known Marty from the time I joined Wi-Fi Alliance which was about 3 years ago and have worked closely since then. I am still in shock and sad that I will no longer get to talk to him! He was great listener and considered suggestions with open mindedness. I could speak my mind without feeling judged. He was witty, kind and took stand when needed. He surely was proud of his family. I will miss Marty. Prayers for his soul. Om Shanti

Marty and I connected as friends at HTC, each fathers with three sons. We worked closely together at HTC, where I was North Americas CFO. Marty was a joy, super smart, always positive, and humble. He drove our major EVO 4G success, bringing together "three ugly ducklings" - Sprint, Best Buy, and HTC - and selling 6 million phones in 15 months! Jami, I am so sad for you and your sons. My prayers are with you and your family.

My condolences to the family. When losing a loved one it can be unbearable. In the Bible book of Isaiah 25:8 Jehovah God promises soon to "swallow up death forever." He also promises to bring back those who have fallen asleep in death (Acts 24:15). In the near future while longer this kind of pain will be a thing of the past (Revelations 21:4). May these scriptures bring you comfort in this difficult time (jw.org)

This has come as a complete shock. I am deeply saddened by the passing of Marty. He was such a kind and generous person. He was always talking to me about how proud he was of his boys making their own way in life and excelling. A true family man and he taught me a lot about life. I really enjoyed working with Marty and will always remember him fondly. I really am so sorry for your loss. I can’t begin to imagine what you are going through. Look after each other. Stephen

While the sudden death of such a wonderful person is still weighing heavy on my mind, I would like to share a funny story about Marty because one of Marty's most blessed traits was his sense of humor. He and Jami were first time homeowners, and Marty was so excited to have the nicest lawn on the block. Of course he wanted to get rid of some pesky weeks. So....... he sprayed Round Up over the entire lawn to really get those weeds. It worked!! But the grass wasn't too happy. Rest In Peace Marty.... give hugs to Mary and Jacko. I know you will be watching over your family and making sure they are safe and happy. Much love... Rob

Incredibly fond memories of Marty over many years. Starting as a co-worker and evolving to a partner of Sprint. And Marty was an incredible partner and led the efforts. HTC Evo is legendary. He always had a smile and truly enjoyed people. And brought laughter. I am grateful I shared the same flight back from CES in January. He talked about his boys and wife and was such a proud father. And I hope they feel this.

Marty was leader of Sprint account at HTC and he was always very detail oriented without asking people to do something he would not do. He was typically the first in and last out and worked tirelessly to build EVO brand at Sprint with over 10 million phones sold. Marty will be dearly missed and may his soul rest in peace. All strength to Jami and boys as you navigate through this loss.

Dad, I’m going to miss you more than words can describe. You were my best friend, my role model, and my dad all in one. I’m the luckiest person in the world to have had you as my dad and my number one supporter from day one. I’ll always be grateful for all your hard work and the sacrifices you made to give us such an amazing life, filled with opportunities to succeed. I promise to keep working hard to carry on your legacy and I will always strive to achieve the success you did. I’m still in shock and wish that I could talk to you one more time, but I know you knew how much we love you and appreciate what you did for us. I’m going to miss your wisdom, your guidance, your humor, and our nightly phone calls that I looked forward to every day. I’m also going to miss talking with you about the Chiefs and fantasy football. I promise to take care of Mom, Logan, Graham, and Carlie. I’m sorry I couldn’t give you any grandchildren while you were here on earth, but I know you’ll be watching over us and your future grandchildren from above. I’ll make sure to tell them lots of stories about you so they can appreciate what you did for our family and feel like they knew you. I love you so much, Dad, and I can’t wait to see you again in heaven someday. ??
