Apr 10, 1995---Feb 07, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kyle Alexander Summers, who left us suddenly on February 7, 2024, at the age of 28. Born on April 10, 1995, in Overland Park, Kansas, Kyle grew into a remarkable young man, touching the lives of all who knew him with his vibrant personality, kindness, and infectious humor.

Kyle was a proud graduate of The University of Kansas, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a Business Minor in 2017. He began his professional career at JC Penny, through their Supply Chain Management fellowship program. He continued his academic pursuits at Rockhurst University, obtaining an MBA in 2022. Kyle was an accomplished Operations Supervisor, known for his dedication and innovative approach in the logistics and supply chain industry.  Kyle then moved into management roles at Smart Warehousing and most recently at Amazon.

Outside of work, Kyle was deeply passionate about sports.  In particular, he loved playing basketball in high school at Shawnee Mission West and then continuing to play in college. This love of basketball later spurred his avid interest of collecting Nike Air Jordan sneakers. As an avid fan of the KC Chiefs and the KU Jayhawks, Kyle also enjoyed attending sports games often surrounded by a close-knit circle of friends who also shared his enthusiasm. He had a unique ability to unite people, making sure everyone in his life felt his support and love, creating an atmosphere where everyone felt valued and included. As a proud Big Brother with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Kyle dedicated himself to making a positive impact in the lives of others, building several deep connections within the Big Brother community in Lawrence KS.

Kyle's childhood was filled with many joyous memories, marked by endless games of backyard football, shooting hoops in the driveway and many more childhood antics. He forged many lasting bonds with friends from the 80th Street neighborhood and areas beyond.  We share with Kyle many cherished memories of his time as kid hiking, mountain biking and enjoying his love of the outdoors with his family and friends at their cabin in Colorado.

Kyle had a kind and loving soul, always ready to uplift those around him. His ability to light up a room and make everyone laugh, even during difficult times, was a gift to all who knew him. Friends and family will forever cherish Kyle as an extraordinary individual, whose legacy of love, laughter, and steadfast kindness leaves an unforgettable imprint. His remarkable ability to affect lives, fostering joy and unity, will be treasured, and remembered always.

Kyle leaves behind a loving family: his mother, Lauri; brothers, Adam and John; sister-law-Jazmine. He also leaves behind his Aunt Patti, Uncle Greg, Cousin Beth. Aunt Sharon, Uncle Greg, Cousin Kristin, former Stepfather Ralph, along with many other dearly loved members of his larger extended family. He was predeceased in death by his father, Craig, grandparents Mac, Karen, Violet, Lucky, Cousin Rhiannon, and Uncle Chip.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 13th at Porter’s Funeral Home in Lenexa at 5 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at 6:00 pm. Donations in Kyle’s memory can be made to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Kansas City

Kyle's legacy is one of love, laughter, a strong work ethic and the profound impact he had on those around him. As we gather to remember and celebrate his life, we hold onto the memories that remind us of the incredible human being he was. Kyle, you will be deeply missed but forever in our hearts.

I can’t even begin to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. I’m devastated. Kyle was an incredible human. All throughout childhood, growing up in the ole neighborhood, I looked up to him. I wanted to be like him. Smart, athletic, and one of the coolest dudes to be around. I still look back on the wonderful memories of the frequent backyard football games, flashlight tag, and gutter ball at ad astra. After we moved away, I only saw Kyle probably once a year, but every time we met up, we didn’t miss a beat. I remember back in 2015 when I was a senior in high school, Kyle and Marco were on Christmas break (I think) and to my surprise, he came over to our house. It was a Tuesday and I had finished up my shift at the blue moose around 10 PM - little did I know what I was walking into. Long-story-short, we had an incredible time hanging out and reflecting on the good-ole-days, and I had a rough time at school the next day. Kyle and I actually reconnected last April, and same thing, we had so much fun seeing each other again - as you can see in the picture I uploaded. I was about to graduate in the next month, and he kept telling me that he was proud of me. And I told him how proud I was of him: MBA, college basketball player, all-around beast. I remember us just endlessly complimenting each other and telling each other how wonderful it was to hangout again. I would do anything to have one last conversation with my buddy. I would do anything to be there for your family in this time of need and celebrate the life of whom I consider another brother. Sending many thoughts and prayers from DC. Love you all.

I'm deeply saddened to hear about Kyle. I hadn't kept up with him very well in recent years and I regret that, but I have nothing but extremely positive memories of him. He was the first senior member of the Vikings basketball team in 2012-13 that treated me like a teammate and friend, and I will forever be thankful for him for being that person. Kyle remains an important part of my life despite the time and distance, and I hope you're proud of him for being a light in this world to so many people. Your family will be in my thoughts. May he rest easy 'til we get to see him again.

Kyle was a first-class individual. He was courteous, polite, and very knowledgeable. He was a very loving son to his mother. He talked about police work and sports with us. We tried to recruit him for a law enforcement career which was in our background. Every time we saw him next door he would smile and wave. Often he talked about his job. We will miss his presence. Our deepest prayers go out to Lauri who loved her son deeply and shared so much time with him even after he moved into his own place. Lauri, please know the pain and tears you're having now are a measure and reflection of your love. In time may fond memories and smiles lessen the tears. Kyle left us far too early from our perspective but we understand that earth's loss is heaven's gain. In God's time we will meet again. Until then, Lauri, you are not alone. We'll sit with you and talk with you as much as you desire. You were a wonderful neighbor and friend and we will be the same to you.

We are so saddened to hear of Kyle’s passing. He was like one of our kids, always over at our house or Alex was at Kyle’s. He was always smiling and such a well mannered young man! We loved having him around! We ran into him and Scott in Nashville tailgating for a Chiefs game in 2019 and they were all hugging us! It’s a great memory. He will be missed! Lauri and family we are so sorry for your loss. Know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. You raised a good man and he will be missed.

I was deeply saddened to hear the news about Kyle’s passing this week. Kyle had a vibrant personality. He was easy to talk to and always cracking jokes. I worked with Kyle when he was on nights and I had the pleasure of being able to work with him again the past couple weeks after I moved to dayshift. I was so excited to be able to work on the same shift as Kyle again. It would be 6:30am and he was already making us laugh as we started the day. He will be greatly missed by myself and the team at FOE1. My heart goes out to his family and close friends. I hope they find peace in knowing that he was a good person and that he made an impact on so many people around him.

Sitting here typing this, it still doesn’t feel real. I’m thankful to have reconnected with Kyle after going awhile without seeing each other. I relocate a lot for work so it’s hard to stay in touch with everyone. But when we did reconnect, it was like no time had gone by at all. He was still that loving, joking, great friend from before. He always made sure to ask about the family and always made sure I told them he said wassup. There was no one like Kyle Summers. Rest easy brotha. Much love to you and your family.

Fast forwarding to tonight ,after months of getting the chance to know him better , working side by side week in & week out all I can say is Thankyou man! Thankyou for leading me in the right path, all the leadership advice & communication skills you’ve helped me improve on throughout the last few weeks. It saddens me that I just talked to you last weekend & then heard about your passing today at work. You will be truly missed & work won’t feel the same but may you rest in peace my man! Where do I begin? I never expected to receive the news that I did today, February 11th, that you had passed away. You were such a great leader, an outstanding role model, and a kind hearted human being. You showed so much kindness and appreciation towards your associates at FOE1, and I was lucky enough to have you and Kailey as a team when I worked there. I left FOE1 in May, 2022, after having the opportunity to work with Kyle at our sister location of MKC6 after joining the FOE1 team back in January of that year. I was taught so many new things and I had learned from so many different experiences while here, creating friendships and having the ability to have a team who cared about me. Kailey, and I, were both close to Kyle, we worked through very tough conditions in the warehouse when it was so busy, and persevered no matter the circumstances, Kyle was such a shining light of personality to have around, always making everyone feel better when they had felt down, telling dad jokes and having such an upbeat and joyful view on things, whether he was happy or not. I wish that FOE1 had been easier on my mental health, but with what work had come over the course of a few months of being there, I decided it may have been best to transfer back to my "home" facility, MKC6. The last day I worked at FOE1, I was given very heartfelt goodbyes, and thank yous from the team, including Megan, Kyle's manager at the time, Kyle, Kailey, and others who did not want me to go. I gave Kyle a hug goodbye the day that I left, and a very warm thank you, and wonderful appreciation for my hard work from Megan herself as well. Kyle and Kailey had tried very hard to make my job easier there to get me to stay, but in the end, I had to go. Although I had only known him for a few months, he made such an impact on me, both Kailey and our team. There will never be another Kyle Summers that Amazon could find to take his place. He was one of a kind, and I am truly devastated that he left us. I'm sending my condolences to his family, I could not be more heartbroken. I'm so sorry to everyone grieving.

I have no words to express how truly saddened I am to hear about the loss of such a great friend! I was part of the team that trained Kyle when he first came on at Amazon. From day one we were instant friendship was built, being there for each other on the worst days and celebrating the best days together. Making the silliest videos together just to laugh at and get us through our days. He was my biggest cheerleader when it came to my leadership skills and moving up to become part of the management team. I will always remember him as he was such a great friend, co-worker, and leader to so many. I pray for his family for peace, comfort, and strength in this time of need.

As a mother of a son that was in High School with Kyle, I can tell you, he always had a smile for you and a warm welcome ( even if it was in front of the HS gang). He was always polite, considerate and pleasant to have around. Now that I look back, he might have been one of the very few I would have let stay in my house alone….he a was a good one. I’m so sorry for everyone’s loss that knew and appreciated him, Lori I’m praying for you.

Lauri, John and Adam, David and I were heartbroken to hear of Kyle's sudden passing. Our hearts go out to you and your family. There are no words to explain how tragic this loss is. We were fortunate to watch Kyle grow up from the boy in the neighborhood to a college student that embraced knowledge and became a professional in the Logistics and Supply Chain Industry. Kyle was respectful, fun loving and a loyal friend. We spent many hours with Kyle, whether watching him as a competitor and teammate to Robert, school activities or hanging around the house. Of course, we will always have Cabo memories. After college I had the pleasure of working with Kyle professionally. I did not have hesitate to be a professional reference for him. It will take time for your family and friends to begin the healing process. Rest in Peace Kyle, we love you and will miss you. Our prayers and love for all of you at this difficult time. Kyle was a great man. He and I played sports together as younger kids and he was always a great competitor. We lost touch through our early teenage years but when I unexpectedly had to switch high schools our senior year and ended up transferring to Shawnee Mission West he was the first person to greet me with open arms and welcomed me into a great community of people that was led by people like him. Kyle will be dearly missed and his stories of acceptance and competitiveness will be passed on to my children as an example of what a person should be.

Lauri, I know there are no words to express how sorry we are for your loss. I am still in complete shock. Kyle was an amazing man and immediately became a part of our family the moment we met him. He was always very sweet and fun to be around. My boys immediately became close to him and looked up to him. He was Cody’s 2nd older brother who always took the time to be around. He actually took care of Kasey a few times too from the stories I hear. We were blessed to have him in our lives and he will be missed. I am confident now that my kids will have another guardian angel to look over them and so will you. We love you lots and are here for anything you will ever need. I am so sorry to hear about Kyle's unexpected passing. He was one of the best competitors I ever had the privilege of coaching. He hated to lose and truly had the heart of a Viking. Though we knocked heads occasionally, we grew to have a wonderful relationship as coach and player. This attitude I know carried him through college and into a success career as an adult. In closing, I would like to share with you the Team Prayer that we said before every game. "Let us pray. But pray in your own way but pray not to win but God willing we will. Rather pray that no one gets hurt during the course of this activity. Thank God you are able to play for Shawnee Mission West. And I thank God he has allowed me to coach you (Kyle). Finally good luck and remember win or lose, I love and respect you guys. Amen May Kyle rest in heaven and again I give my greatest sympathy to those who will miss him the most. Sincerely Coach B

Oh Kyle how much this has changed me! I only seen you every so often after juco & that is so unfortunate. Thank you for being such a great & strong friend. Such a standout athlete and upperclassman how much smarter you made me in highschool thank you always! Even after highschool you helped me work on freethrows at juco on your own time such a selfless character trait and I’m thankful to know you. After Juco and Cali I got recruited to K.U. without you that would not be! In ‘22 we won a ring without you that would not be! I don’t want your parents to think they ever did any thing wrong you wonderful person, they raised you beautifully this I know, you are great person to look up to my friend until I see you again!! Our coach left you a prayer surely if 2 people agree it will be done! #GodIsPerfect

When I get to where you are The many tears I've shed since you left won't matter anymore. The pain for us both... will be dissipated When I get to where you are... Everything will be just as it should be again. When I get to where you are... We will catch up on everything and you will tell me you have been watching over me. You never really left me completely. When I get to where you are... It will feel like both forever and just a small amount of time went by since I last hugged you so tight. When I get to where you are... The longing will stop, and I will have no more questions Because they want matter once I get back to you. So leave the light on for me up there. Because I know you are waiting To be the first one to welcome me home... When I get to where you are. Love always, Mom xxo
