John Joseph Tank, 87, went peacefully to the Lord on Saturday, December 9, after a brief illness. Born October 30, 1936, John was the son of Jimmie and Florence Tank. He grew up in Kansas City, Kansas/Johnson County attending St. Agnes Grade School, De La Salle Military Academy and St. Benedict’s College. He served in the Army and then entered a career in sales and services. During that time he moved to Chicago and then to Santa Monica, California where he resided for 40 years. He established the Moguls, a lunch café, on Wilshire Blvd in Beverley Hills. Later he managed apartments in both Los Angeles and Athens, Texas. Upon retirement he returned to Kansas City to be with family and friends.
John was a compassionate man often quietly helping those who were in need. He was a very creative individual who was always exploring a new invention mostly designed to help people have a better life.
Being single his entire life he was able to experience life as he chose. In some ways he was footloose and fancy free. He was quite a story teller and had many escapades to share with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mary Ann Markovich, and brothers Jim and Pete. He is survived by his sister, Judy Holgerson (Joe), of Littleton, Colorado and his brother, Father Tom Tank, of Overland Park and nine nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Church of the Ascension, 9510 West 127th St, on Tuesday, December 19th, at 10:00 with the rosary being prayed at 9:30. Burial will be at Mount St. Mary Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri. In lieu of flowers John's family suggests memorial contributions to Villa St. Francis or Catholic Community Hospice.
Eternal rest grant unto John, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. Amen.
