John Galen “Kelly” Harper, age 86, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

He was born in Kansas City, Kansas to Guy and Mary Loretta Harper on March 21, 1939.

John served in the United States Air Force.

Mr. Harper had a storied career at the Xerox Corporation for 35+ years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Julie, of 59 years; daughter, Denise Skrljac (Tom);  his son Kelly of Phoenix, Arizona; his four grandchildren, Cassie Skrljac, Joe Skrljac  (Samantha), Liz Skrljac (Dylan Pendleton), Matthew Skrljac (Shelden Moon) as well as four beautiful great grandchildren, Silas Skrljac, Nora Skrljac, Sutton Skrljac and Paisley Pendleton.

A Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11300 W. 103rd Street, Overland Park, KS with family remembrances beginning at 11:10 a.m.  Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. and interment will take place at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Luncheon to follow back at church following burial.

in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John Harper’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place,  Memphis, TN 38105.

Harper Family: I'm sorry for your loss. I'll always remember John as that guy who would make fun of me walking around the neighborhood peddling (his word) my tomatoes. He always had a joke to tell (some I think he made up) and a smile on his face like he knew something the rest of us didn't. He would come out to see Julie off to dinner when I'd pick her up or meet us in the drive when we got back. Such a gentleman. He was really just coming to tell me his latest joke! He will be missed I'm sure!
