John Frederick Jorgensen, 79, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away on August 7, 2025.
John was born in Wichita, Kansas, on September 29, 1945, to John Paul and Freda Lillon Jorgensen. John grew up in Mt. Hope, Kansas and graduated from Mt. Hope High School in 1963. His father was an attorney in Wichita, and his mother was a teacher and later a Postmaster in Mt. Hope, Kansas.
John was a proud Jayhawk, attending the University of Kansas where he was a member of the TKE fraternity. He earned his bachelor's degree in accounting in 1966 and went on to graduate from the University of Kansas Law School in 1970. He served as president of his law school graduating class. During his summers, he worked at the accounting firm of Unrau and Regier in Wichita to help with expenses.
In 1970, John partnered with his father's law partner, Grey Dresie, to form the law firm of Dresie & Jorgensen. For 38 years, John was a respected business lawyer who helped form numerous successful corporations and business entities, often serving as a director for the companies he helped create.
On January 17, 1981, John married Debra Ann Maher, daughter of Donald and Esther Maher of Great Bend, Kansas. They raised two daughters in Wichita, KS. John enjoyed scuba diving, hunting, fishing, golfing, and water skiing. After retiring, John and Debra traveled extensively, visiting more than 50 countries, often traveling with dear friends and family. In 2022, John and Debra moved to Lenexa, KS to be closer to family.
An active member of his community, John belonged to many organizations. He was a Mason from the Blue Lodge in Mt. Hope and a member of the Midian Shrine in Wichita. He was a member of the Wagonmasters, Jesters Men's Club, Kiwanis Club, and Crestview Country Club where he enjoyed golfing and swimming with his children.
John is survived by his wife of 44 years, Debra Ann Jorgensen; their children, Joni (Nels) Lindahl and Jana (Andrew) Winkelbauer; four grandchildren, John Paul and Kaylee Lindahl, Madison and Henry Winkelbauer; his brother Jim (Angela) Jorgensen; and his sister Silvia Daniels.
A funeral Mass followed by a luncheon will be held on August 22, 2025 at 10:00am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church located at 5501 Monticello Road Shawnee, KS.
