It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the passing of Jeff Carlile on February 8 at Overland Park Regional Hospital. He was 61 years old.
Jeff was born on Wednesday, March 19, 1963, on the Naval base in Groton, CT, to David and Ann Carlile. He was a loving husband, son, friend, leader, father and grandfather among many other things. Known for his magnetic personality, Jeff never met a stranger—those he encountered remained part of his circle for life. He was even Papa Jeff to the children on his street. A responsibility and honor he did not take lightly.
Throughout his life, Jeff worked hard in his career in information technology. He was a diligent worker for AMC as their HR Systems Analyst. When he wasn’t working or with family, he was most at home on his motorcycle. Little made him happier than riding his Harley to a rock festival and camping with his people. The biker community knew and loved him as their own – as he did them. His presence brought joy to everyone who knew him. Jeff also proudly served for many years in the US Marine Corps Reserves.
He was preceded in death by his paternal Grandparents Jack and Ethel Carlile and his maternal grandparents Alfred and Mayme Harper.
He is survived by his wife Karen, son CJ (Mackenzie), stepsons Jason Garrison (Ellie) and Jacob Garrison; grandchildren Fletcher Carlile and Archer Carlile, siblings Dave Carlile and Teri Holt (Rick), his nieces, a large part of the local biker community, as well as many other loving relatives, coworkers, and friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday, February 14, from 3–5 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Lenexa, KS. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15th at 11 a.m. at his family church – Community of Christ Abundant Life Center - in St. Joseph, MO.
We look forward to celebrating his life at one of his favorite places: Side Pockets in Lenexa, Kansas on Saturday February 15 at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Special Olympics North Area 3725 Genefield Rd., Suite B, St Joseph, MO. in his honor.
Known to many as Gator, Jefe, or Papa Jeff, he will be dearly missed—but his love and legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
