On April 13, 2025 Jan Marie Calvert passed from this life after a long struggle with cancer. She is survived by her parents George and Martha Calvert, her brother and sister-in-law George and Teresa Calvert, her nephew Brady Calvert and her nephew Geoffrey Calvert and his fiancée Kayla Moylan. She was preceded in death by her niece Allyiah Calvert and leaves behind Cherished friends, Asmeeta Erickson and family.
Jan loved her family deeply and dearly and was a champion for each one of us. She actively supported all of her niece's and nephews' evolving interests throughout their lives. Jan was the one to help her brother learn to use a computer again after losing his vision. She assisted her parents in countless ways both big and small over the decades.
Jan was incredibly creative and clever in her giving. One of her superpowers was her ability to notice details about our lives and then find gifts that were perfectly suited for each of us. Jan was talented in many types of crafts and we will especially cherish all of the things that she made herself.
Jan's professional career revolved around her superb ability to write about technical subjects in an easy to understand manner. She worked for a number of area companies as a technical writer and web developer. She and her brother worked together in a small business that was the high point of both of their careers. Later in life she went back to school and obtained a Masters degree in library science and worked as a business research librarian for the Husch Blackwell law firm. She was close to her colleagues in the library group and they were incredibly supportive and helpful as she continued working while in treatment.
Throughout her life Jan loved animals. She grew up with a pet duck and her first dog Misty. She had several dogs during her life and at one point kept 3 rescued prairie dogs in her home. In addition to her pets she volunteered at an animal refuge center.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon on Thursday, April 17, at the Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia Lenexa, KS. Graveside services will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS.
