Mar 27, 1947---Feb 23, 2022

Gregory E. “Greg” Slinker, 74, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2022 at his home in Kansas City, Kansas.  Greg was born on March 27, 1947 in Joplin, Missouri, the son of  Shelby E. and Maye Deane (Triplett) Slinker.  Greg graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School in Overland Park, Kansas, Class of 1965. He later attended Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kansas, before embarking on a career in business management, sales, building and remodeling. He established his own company, G. Contracting, Inc., in 1987.

Greg's life-long passion was sports, especially the Kansas City Chiefs, and all athletics, from pick-up games with his friends, his time with the Kansas City Blues rugby team, to his love of fast-pitch softball, where he excelled at third base.  His hobbies were building and remodeling, woodworking, design and creation of one-of-a-kind jewelry.  A creative soul at heart, just about anything he imagined, he could make with his hands.

Greg was the best friend anyone could have, and will always be remembered for his sense of humor,  his loyalty, compassion, empathy for others and his generosity of spirit.  His friendships were life long and his memory will be treasured by all those he left behind.

Greg is predeceased by his parents, aunts and uncles, and many beloved pets, especially his faithful bird-hunting companion, Pittsburg, who was the joy of his life for 16 years.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Slinker; son, Corey & Erika Slinker, grandsons Nicholas and Lukas and granddaughter, Rylie, of Olathe; his sister, Cheryl Torney of Shawnee; niece, Jill Jensen and husband, Brett; nephew, Christopher Torney his wife Stacy, and their children, of Shawnee; cousins, extended family, friends and the many people he touched along the way.

Private burial will be held at a later date at Ozark Memorial Cemetery in Joplin, Missouri.  A  celebration of his life will be planned in Kansas City for the 75th anniversary of his birth.

Greg was one of my brothers best friends. He and Greg played fast pitch together and had many great times. Greg stood with me at my brother's funeral as I delivered my brothers eulogy. Sincere condolences for your loss. Greg and I worked together in the mid 1970's, and had been out of touch many years. He was always a pleasure to be around and worked extremely hard. He will be missed by all.
