Gary Lee Gaunce was born February 17, 1934, in Kansas City, MO and passed away at home on December 4, 2024. He was proceeded in death by his father and mother, Lee Gaunce (Florence) and Opal Lusk (Victor), sister Marlene Patterson. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife, Patricia Gaunce, his children Terry, Candee Hoffman (David), Chris (Jane) and grandchildren Evan Gaunce (Krystal) and Lane Gaunce (Kaleigh), Ashley Bennett (Michael), Daniel Hoffman, Chase Gaunce, Mallory Nachbar (Jeffrey) and great-grandchildren Logan Bennett, Caden Bennett, Savannah Nachbar, Jackson Nachbar, and Leo Gaunce.
Gary Gaunce had been employed by several wholesale meat companies, Swift and Company, Wilson Foods, (where he was President of their Kansas City operation, Williams Meat Company) and then with S&S Meats until his retirement in 1999.
Gary was always passionate about sports. He became a golf fanatic in his early twenties and mastered the game to become Club Champion at both Leavenworth and Victory Hills Country Clubs as well as sinking several holes-in-ones over the years. He proudly watched as both his sons, Terry and Chris, earned college golf scholarships. The three of them teamed up to win the Wyandotte County 3-Man Golf Tournament. He shared his love of fishing and water sports with his family at their Table Rock Lake home, where he became an avid bird watcher. He achieved #1 on his bucket list in 2008 when Chris treated him to golf trip to Pebble Beach.
Cremation arranged by Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia St., Lenexa, KS, with a remembrance visitation on Friday, December 13 from 3:00-5:00p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the University of Kansas Health System to benefit Cancer Research and Center for Advanced Heart Care.
