Elzora Elizabeth Jeffries (Momma, Grandma Sookie, Liz, Sookie, Smiling Sally, Aunt Zookie) passed away peacefully at her home on June 24, 2024. Last year she set a goal of reaching 90 years of age which just like everything else in life she accomplished successfully this past December. The love that she received from friends and family pushed her across the finish line! Born to Marvin and Ruth VanBebber on December 5th 1933. Elzora married the love of her life Ellsworth William Jeffries Jr in November of 1962. Elzora loved her sports teams!
Especially her beloved Royals, Jayhawks and of course the Chiefs. Elzora passed her love for sports onto her son as well as her grandkids. If you were ever at her house and there was a ball game on, it was going to be on her tv! In fact, one day before she went to be with the Lord she was talking about the upcoming Chiefs season with her son and grandson and how much she was looking forward to another SB and parade. On that very same day, Elzora was watching golf, for the record, she had never played golf nor did she understand the scoring system but it was a sport that involved a stick and a ball and it was good enough until the next ball game came on! Elzora retired from Colgate Palmolive after close to 30 years of service in 1990 and began her second career as Grandma Sookie in 1992.
Elzora is survived by her son Ellsworth (Nicole) William Jeffries III; grandson Tyler Jeffries; granddaughter Anissa Jeffries and two bonus grandsons; Jon (Jon Boy) Estrada and Noah Ortego. Elzora is also survived by two brothers; Miles VanBebber and Richard VanBebber.
Elzora was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Ruth VanBebber. Her husband, Ellsworth William Jeffries Jr. Her brothers, Merle, Melvin, Ralph, Carl, George, Marvin and Alfred. Her sisters, Marie, Helen, Juanita, Nora and Billie.
Elzora will be remembered as a loving mother, grandma, sister, aunt and friend who would do anything to help out those she loved in a time of need. Elzora’s door was always open and welcoming to her friends and family. She passed her love for family on to her son and grandkids who will continue her tradition of “family over everything”.
