Betty was born February 20, 1932, in Independence, Missouri, the daughter of Walter and Sadie Self. Betty worked for AT&T for 30 years; her career spanned from switchboard operator to retiring as a manager. She and her husband, Charles, owned and operated an H & R Block franchise in Shepherdsville, KY, and a farm with an apple orchard in Rineyville, KY, before moving to Lenexa in 2006. Christmas was most special to her and was over the top with her generosity. She was an artist who enjoyed painting, with some of her work displayed at Lenexa City Hall. She was also an accomplished bridge player and became someone everyone wanted as a partner. Betty was a member of the Lenexa United Methodist Church, WY-JO Telephone Pioneers, and the American Legion. She was a member of the church’s circle and volunteered for various charitable causes, including stuffing teddy bears for hospitalized children.

She is survived by her three sons, Robert J. Soptic Jr. and his wife, Rebecca, Kansas City, KS; Robert J. Soptic III and his wife, Patricia, Overland Park, KS; and Steven Soptic and his wife, Diane, Shawnee, KS; three stepchildren, Carol Tselis, Charles Jackson and his wife, Cindi, and Hope Jackson; 14 Grandchildren, Joshua, Sarah, Michelle, Andrea, Joseph, Amanda, Eric, Avia, Sarah, Anne, Daniel, Zachary, Benjamin, and Neva.  and 8 Great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Sadie Self, husband Charles Jackson, siblings Wesley Self, Mike Self, Wanda Self, Helen Shearer, and Lou Hopper, stepsons Dr. Thomas Jackson, and Dr. Alex Tselis,  and granddaughter Aubry Soptic.
