Donald Lee Steppe, aged 91, of Overland Park, Kansas, peacefully passed away on July 13, 2024. Born in Junction City, Kansas, Don was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Don and his cherished wife Shirley Ann Swan shared an early life enriched by travel and adventure, exploring destinations across the globe. They met in Junction City, KS, married in 1956, and built a life together that spanned various places including Honolulu, Hawaii, and Overland Park, Kansas. Don graduated from Kansas State University and honorably served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army. His career in the banking industry was marked by dedication and integrity, providing for his family and leaving a lasting professional legacy.
Don's deepest love was reserved for his family. He is survived by his two sons, Ronald (Kathleen) and Mike, and his adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Dustin (Jessie, Sloane, Presley), Kyle (Vince, Patrick), Karen Hagans, mother of Dustin and Kyle; Kristen (Derrick, Hazel, Holly), Sean (Madi, Maple), and Erin (Willow). He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Shirley, and two great-grandsons, Henry and Hudson.
In addition to his devotion to family, Don and Shirley had a passion for birds, gardening, and his beloved dogs. Whether tending to his garden and flowers, watching birds, or spending time with his faithful companions, Don and Shirley spent much of their later years enjoying the outdoors together.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate Don's life will be held on Saturday, July 20th, 2024, at Ashland Cemetery in Manhattan, Kansas. Don's kindness, love for family, and zest for life will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
