Dennis Hummell, 92, of Lenexa, KS, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2026.
Visitation will be from 9:30–10:15 a.m., followed by the Rosary at 10:15 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 27, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 13615 W. 92nd Street, Lenexa, KS. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Kansas City Hospice House or Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Dennis was born August 12, 1934, in Concordia, KS, to Milton and Carmen (Charbonneau) Hummell. After graduating from high school, Dennis served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Dennis began his career in 1958 as a lineman for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. He retired in 1991 as Chief Operations Manager for the Kansas City area. He was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Optimist Club of Lenexa.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Martha Bisnette; and his brother, Ralph Hummell.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jeanine Hummell; five children, Susan (Frank) Hartley of Fort Collins, CO; Steven (Janet) Hummell of Colorado Springs, CO; Sharon Hummell of Lenexa, KS; Lorraine (Jeff) Silkman of Leawood, KS; and Dan (Teresa) Hummell of Lenexa, KS; 13 grandchildren, Brian Hartley (Nicole), Megan Hartley, Kiersten Hanna, Brock Hanna (Sarah), Caiden Stewart, Cameron Stewart, Kara Spicer (Zeb), David Silkman (Kimbe), Andrew Silkman, Madeline Hummell, Nathan Hummell, Natalie Le (Huy), and Catherine Hummell; step-grandson Brent Hartley (Flavia); seven great-grandchildren, Nora and Rhett Spicer, Wilson Silkman, Baker and Maggie Hanna, Nico and Nova Hartley; his sister, Carol Hanrahan; his brother, Kenneth (Geraldine) Hummell; and many nieces and nephews.
Dennis was an avid golfer and was proud of his two holes-in-one. He was also big fan of the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. Dennis will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his faith, and the many friendships he made throughout his life.
