Dean Looney, age 101, passed away peacefully in his home Wednesday, March 26, surrounded by his family. He was born January 12, 1924 in his parents' home in Myrtle, Missouri. Dean worked in accounting for 72 years, finally fully retiring at the age of 93. He was also an avid bird watcher and enthusiastic fan of the Chiefs, Royals and KU Jayhawks. Dean often spent time with his children and grandchildren around the family table playing cards and board games and telling stories of his childhood on the farm. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church where he ushered at Sunday mass for many years. Dean is survived by two sons , Mark D. Looney, Conroe, TX, Greg Looney, Phoenixville, PA, and a daughter Susan Ibarra, Kansas City, 10 grandchildren, Rachel Looney, Elizabeth (Looney) Clark, Matt Looney, Sarah (Ibarra) Larrosa, Brian Ibarra, Kelli Ibarra, Megan (Ibarra) Hochsprung, Julia Ibarra, Connor Ibarra, Cason Ibarra, and 11 great grandchildren with a twelfth soon to arrive.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 1, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church 94th and State Ave., KCK. Friends may call 10:00 AM Tuesday, until time of service. Entombment to follow at Gate of Heaven, 126th and Parallel Ave., KCK.
