David Winston Grissett, 82, of Enid, Oklahoma, passed away on September 22, 2026, in Overland Park, Kansas.

David was born on January 23, 1944, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to Daniel Baxter and Bertha Nuñez Grissett. The youngest of four children, he worked alongside his father, Dan, at Grissett’s Hardware throughout high school. He graduated from LaGrange High School and McNeese State University, where he was a member of the Theta Rho Chapter of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

In December 1969, David married Marilyn Miller Fournet. Together they raised three children—Bill, Todd, and Allison—and shared 57 wonderful years of marriage. Although David carried his Louisiana roots with him throughout his life, he and Marilyn made Enid their home, building a family and forming friendships that would span generations.

For 45 years, David served the Enid community as a State Farm agent. To David, the work was about far more than policies and paperwork. It was about helping people protect what mattered most, guiding them through difficult moments, and being someone they could trust. Many families remained with him for decades, reflecting the personal care, knowledge, and dependability he brought to his work.

David and Marilyn were longtime supporters of the Enid community, quietly and generously contributing to organizations that served families and strengthened the lives of others. David took an active interest in Enid’s future and participated in efforts to help shape and improve the community he called home. His faith was also important to him, and he was a devoted member and supporter of the First United Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church, and Westminster Church of Enid.

Later in life, David loved playing golf with friends at Oakwood Country Club and traveling with them to play memorable courses around the country. He treasured time with his grandchildren, especially teaching them to fish at Willow Lake.

The Tomcats—a group of couples whose friendship became like family—were a constant in David and Marilyn’s life in Enid. They raised their children together, traveled together, and gathered for weekly dinners, sharing a bond that endured through every season of life.

David’s favorite holiday was Thanksgiving, although in the Grissett family it was never limited to a single day. He prepared his unforgettable Cajun dishes for “Cajun Night” before Thanksgiving and followed them the next day with his famous Thanksgiving dinner, which reliably left everyone in what the family affectionately called a turkey-induced coma.

Those who knew David will remember his bright, genuine smile and the warmth of his greeting. He loved people and took a sincere interest in getting to know them. He was generous with both his love and his actions, worked tirelessly on behalf of his policyholders, and lived for his family and friends.

David is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his sons, Bill Fournet and wife Christy, and Todd Grissett and wife Tona; his daughter, Allison Grissett Wilcox and husband Jeff; his grandchildren, Holden Grissett and wife Mariah, Max Grissett, Douglas Fournet, David Fournet, John Fournet, Katherine Wilcox, and Emily Wilcox; and his great-grandson, Arthur.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Baxter and Bertha Grissett; his brother, Daniel Baxter Grissett Jr.; and his sisters, Anna Lou Miller and Billie Sue Thomas.

A Celebration of Life will be held on a later date.
